First Nissan:

'87 Nissan Pathfinder SE-V6, 3spd AT

Options: Sunroof, roof racks, rear wind deflector, hood deflector, Smittybilt Nerf Bars, Bosch fog lights

I miss that truck... but not it's horrible 14mpg (city), 17mpg (hwy) fuel economy!

My First Nissan:

1984 300ZX 2-seater with 3.0 V6 engine and auto trans, and T-roofs (damn I love T-roofs, why don't they make these any more??!!), and verbal warning system - a sexy woman voice would say "left door open" or "headlights on"...I miss that voice! You can see a pic of the car in my profile at left.

I bought this car when I was 17 and somehow got an awesome deal, but unfortunately after 3 years the electrical completely went to hell, headlights spontaneously going up and down, heater controls, cruise control not working, headlights worked only sometimes which made me avoid night time driving. I drove around for an entire summer listening to "left door open, left door open", of course the door was closed but the car was convinced otherwise.

This car was expensive to maintain, and probably the final straw was when I got a $600 quote to replace the thermostat when I was in college and could barely afford a $20 oil change! One exception was when the car was around 14 years old Nissan randomly decided to replace the injectors for free because of a safety bulletin of some sort, not sure of the details but I thought it was great to get around $1000 work for free.

That car had character, I've seen this car for sale a few times recently and had brief thoughts of checking them out, but they are so notorious for body and more importantly frame rust that it would have to be one that was never winter driven and really babied over the years which is highly unlikely to find....I'll just stick to memories of the old car and keep driving the Rogue!!

I checked out a '91 Pathfinder the other day, and I was amazed at how small it was!! This used to be considered a "full size" SUV, with dimensions that appear to be very close to that of the Rogue, which now is considered barely mid-sized!! My wife has had her eye on an old Pathy like this but I keep reminding her how bad the mileage is, and at roughly 20 years old you're guaranteed to hit some significant repair costs....very cool looking truck though, love the looks!
