Recently my employer hinted at changing my job where I would be driving more than 300 miles a week vs about 50 now. That started me thinking about a different car because (1) I don't want to suck all the value out of my G by driving 25,000 miles a year and(2) I shuddered at the thought of driving a G coupe all those mlles in year-round weather. For some time now I have become disenchanted with my G. I have been in a G coupe for 8 years and was becoming tired of the compomises one must make to drive a coupe. First there was the useless back seat, the barely useful trunk(I had to remember to take my golf clubs out before I went to the grocery store) and living on a dead end street if it snowed 3" or more I had to wait until the neighbors ran up and down the street a few times before I could get out. So even after the job change wasn't going to happen I decided it was time for something different.
Since I am semi-retired I was not going to go for as expensive a car as my G. My research led me at first to the Subaru Legacy 3.6R Limited and the Mazda 6 Grand Touring. After driving both I was leaning toward the Subaru because of the AWD and the larger trunk. I then decided to drive a G37x sedan before I pulled the trigger. About the time I was getting ready to drive the G sedan The economic gods smiled on me and I was able to broaden my horizon to include the EX and FX plus some other crossovers of different major brands( MB and Audi too fugly and Lexus too generic and expensive) and did drive a Volvo XC60 and quite liked it.
And the winner is :

2010 Infinit FX35 AWD Liquid Platinum with prm pkg.
MSRP $47400 The deal: 2008 G37 coupe with 31600 miles trade + 16500 +199 doc fee + wheel and tire protection pkg (420 for 5 yrs) + sales tax.
Used 3000 dealer cash +10000 cash down and got 4.25% for 5 yrs from the same bank financing the coupe. I now have a 5yr loan but I'm driving a FX for $40 a month less than before. My auto insurance even went down $45 for the year.
I drove all thre in this order: G sedan-FX-EX. The G sedan was disappointing in the that I somehow expected it to be a real difference between it and my coupe. The ride was only marginally better, the trunk was bigger but not what I though it would be and the interior was essentially the same. The FX is just a whole different world. The view across the hood and fenders is just amazing and the seats are the most comfortable I have ever experienced(the climate controlled seats are wonderful). Though I had a loaner EX for a week 2 yrs ago and was not impressed I went ahead and drove one. The view across the hood is not impressive, as 2yrs ago I couldn't get the stereo to balance right and didn't like the the different color moulding on the bottom(I know the FX has it but it looks better)
I will probably lurk here from time to time. After checking out the FX forum you guys seem to be a lot more fun. Thanks to those of you who defended me when I got flamed in one particular thread and I hope no one harbors ill feeling as I do not when we disagreed from time to time. Sorry this ran on so long. Good Bye and Good Luck!

I looked at the FX too...but since we already had an SUV, didn't want 2. I was disappointed that they did not include the FX with the 3.7l engine...maybe next year??

Anyway, congrats on the new ride!

Nice congrats. How come not the FX50. I drove the FX35 and it is nice. My only complain was the acceleration especially on hills. Other than that it is a fantastic car with good amount of cargo. Much better than EX. That it was pretty small and the rear legroom just not for grown up on long trip. Also not a fan of the signals integrated in the bumper. Feels out of place down low. I do like the wood in it. Not usually a big fan of wood trim but the ex has a good looking one.

Congrats again. You should be happy for awhile.

The economic gods smiled on me, but they forgot to annoit me with nectar. Oh well!! Everytime I buy a new car I say this one I'm going to keep forever. The I30t lasted 14 months, the 03 G35 lasted 54 months and the 08 G37 lasted 36 months. We'll see.

I think he avoided the FX50 because of the long drives. 390hp will be too much fun for 20mpg driving. In any case, congrats on the new FX. I'd love one if I could have one...

A SUV is the only thing missing from our Infiniti lineup. And an FX would be a lovely addition. It's definitely better than a Porsche Cayenne/VW Touareg and MB ML. But wifey never liked a SUV so it may take a while to convince her. I looked at the new QX56...it's ugly IMO, more like an enlarged Toyota FJ.

I've been out of the G forum for a while since we lost our G35 last year. Well...the grieving is over so I will drop by off and on.
