I have been doing searches for info on guides. Not having too much luck, maybe I am searching incorrectly, but could somebody send me some good links regarding Q-45 guides, about how to tell if they have been done, how much, any info at all actually would be greatly appreciated. When (and if) I ever solve my transmission woes, on to fixing the guides. After that, I am sure I will have some more expenses, but the majors will be out of the way and I will have a SWEEEEEET ride!

Any good shops for doing guide work in the Houston area?

Ever gratefulDebra

The guides and transmission are a [an] [in] significant [in the total scheme of things] less than $5,000 [$3.8-5k].......I really wish you would take it to a dealer and have them list everything they can find wrong. As I suspect another $4-$6k [BESIDES the above] is currently unknown to you......suspension, shocks, mounts, driveshaft, brakes, rad, under plenum hoses, knock sensors, valve cover leaks.

Really it could be that bad ....things we find normally everyday, then there is the AC system and power steering hoses, fuel pump, etc. That could be another $2-$3k. We see them weekly new purchases needing $8-10,000 but the paint is pretty. The people want to blame us for the expense.........why the slightly more reliable 90 LS400 cost $3,000 more......the sales price reflects less discounts for needed repairs.

T3 still has the $1000 guide replacement NICO deal but 800 miles

If they sold you one with a bad transmission what else was wrong?

Please learn the real condition of the car.

Deb, sorry to hear about all your problems. The transmission problem sounds like you are using a bad mechanic who doesn't really know much about the car. As for chain guides, there are dozens of threads here in NICO regarding them. Use the search button at the top of the page and type in chain guides or just guides. I am sure that you will be able to learn alot from those threads. Too bad you didn't find out about this site before making the purchase, it may have saved you quite a bit if pain, hassle and money. I am currently looking at getting a used Q and have been looking around for one with the majority of all the work already done. If it wasn't for this site and the good information that these Q guys have, I would be going in blind to getting one of these cars. Good luck with everything. I think you will find it worth it unless the costs go over 5k or 6k.

I am tellin ya LOL! I just really like this car, I bought it thinking I would have to invest around 2 or 3, to get it good enough to just enjoy for 2 or 3 years, and then trade up. But wondering now If I made a mistake. I am new to the whole Q thing, But I never do pick an inespensive passion. I also love classic Mopars and Landcruisers, but I understand them better at least. My Hb can do the timing gude chain thing I am pretty sure. He is knows his way around a car well, Thanks to you guys, maybe I can weather all this, or maybe it is back to huntin for a GTX!
