ok, so since i first heard about this new sammich from kfc, i've been patiently awaiting today's arrival of this, thing, for lack of better description. but like, seriously, it's been on my calendar at work

ok, so 12pm rolls around and i'm off to the closest kfc, which happens to be a kfc/taco bell combo. not surprising is that all the employees are darkies. what i found odd was that there were no mexicans to make the tacos. now that i think about it, the last time i was there for tacos, they sucked, and taco bell is hard to f*** up. i digress...

took a while to get my food, even though they weren't necessarily busy. i'm hoping that the reason for this was that my sammiches were freshly made. i grab my food and head back to work. i got one of each, for review purposes.

first off, what you don't see is how much smaller the bottom pieces of chicken are.

grilledmessy, salty, needs more bacon. at least it was actually grilled and you can taste the char marks.

original recipenot as messy, not as salty, needs more bacon. the first bite tasted like fish to me, you know, like when you go to mcdonalds and find out too late that they used the same oil for the filet'o'fish as they did the fries? yeah, i had that going on, which really threw me off since neither kfc, nor taco bell serve fish. about halfway through it, i attributed that fishy taste to the fact that i haven't had kfc in a long time and i just lost the taste for it.

overall, not worth 4.99 a pop. it's the debuting day, you'd think this thing would be loaded with bacon and taste amazing. it appeared, tasted, and had the composition of something that's been available for years. two measly strips of mostly fatty bacon. cheese and sauce was about as exciting as an antiques roadshow marathon with my grandma. the colonel needs to be taken out back and beaten.

I hope you ran 20 miles after eating TWO of those because they are absolutely disgusting looking. We all know how a McDonald's Big Mac never looks like the one in the picture like so back when my Dad was a professional Photographer he actually did a shoot for one of McDonald's burgers. They legit brought in thousands upon thousands of buns to get the "perfect" one. I bring this up because have a look at this new double down sandwich from KFC. It looks horrible, nothing even close to appetizing. This bothers me because I know they spent hours and thousands of dollars just to produce that one picture. I would never eat one of those

Yeah a buddy of mine ate one of those in front of me and said, "this is chicken?"

It definitely tastes like fish.

It is not you, it is probably because fish farms feed corn to their fish and so do cattle farms.

do they serve any fish products at all? maybe the oil wasnt changed?

idk... KFC wanted me to wait 15mins cause they 'ran out' of fillets that were prepared... so i left. made me a spinach salad. i feel it was the right decision.

Tita and I have discussed this numerous times over the past week or so. Since I'm west of him, I ordered lunch later and will just add my review to this thread.

My sandwiches look slightly different, but I can attribute that to differences between locations:

I don't know if I am in agreement that the bottom piece of chicken is smaller. On my fried sammich, the bottom piece was an odd shape, but roughly the same size. Here is a shot where the bottom appears not to exist:

Then, at the end of the sandwich, the top is completely gone and all that remains is the bottom:

The following two pictures are of the grilled sandwich. One is the top, the other the bottom. As you can see, both breast halves are roughly the same size:

The sauce is fairly un-appetizing in appearance:

As Tita said, the bacon is puny. It needs like 4 more strips to get my approval. One of mine even got stuck to the cheese on my wrapper and tried to escape, so I had to reassemble the sammich before eating:

The grilled sandwich was messy as hell, just look at the remnants:

In closing, both sandwiches were decent. I would recommend the fried over the grilled, even though I typically don't like fried chicken. The grilled sandwich was far too salty and messy. The fried was greasier, but had an overall better flavor. Neither of my sandwiches tasted like fish, so I cannot really explain that. Basically, the sandwich is an amazing idea, but was executed poorly. I wouldn't say it was bad, it just could've been a lot better. I would agree that it is not worth the $4.99 price tag. Though, the idea is excellent enough that I will likely try to make my own grilled double down at home.

You need to dial 911 before you eat that because it looks like it's going to cause cardiac arrest.

Hardly. I've had worse meals from taco bell, burger king or mcdonalds (nutrition-wise). There really isn't that much that is unhealthy about these (the cheese and sauce could be better for you, but all other fast food joints have that problem). What you really need is about 5 gallons of water nearby to make up for all the sodium you are eating.

did you click it? it's basically crumbled bacon, rolled up in sausage, wrapped with more bacon. we altered the original recipe though

no beer went into it, that all went into me.
