After reading so many threads pertaining to the chain guides I stumbled upon the rumor that some of the later 1993 Q45's did have the metal guides attached instead of the plastic ones. The question is...what is the cutoff date? My Q was made in 07/1993. Would the Infiniti dealer have the info regarding this issue? Or do we turn to another source? Might I have metal guides and not even know it? Hmmm...discuss. I'm all ears.

I should have never brought it up.

I have a 94Q with a build date of 2/93. Go figure, Infiniti must have been building up a big inventory for the 94 model year. I'm assuming I have the metal-backed guides since it's a 94.

1993 is open to debate, but I'd bet $100 that your guides are metal backed. We have yet to see an example of a 1993 with plastic guides on this forum.

Enjoy the ride

Theres no way your Q was 07/93, 02/93 was the last month for the 93 MY. My Q was made in 10/93. double check the white sticker on the door jam.

I distinctly remember one... not sure who's but I would absolutely check any '93. I'm not convinced that there was a hard change-over date.

Been discussed. It's in the archives. At the end of MY 1993 build, there is a rumour that some of the last ones (not necessarily in sequence) had the updated guides. Never proven, however.

There was one 1993 here that had them, but it could not be verified that they were previoiusly replaced.

Don't trust, but verify.

Thread over and out.

There were a few 93s here that had them. One recent one belonged to Nick Chopp, which was sold to Scott Jackson. However, no proof on that one showing that the metal guides were OEM.

Is MY the plant code? The 11th digit in the VIN?

All 90-93 Q were made at the same plant by the same techs only a day shift was used.

M = Tochigi*

*I visit this plant in Dec 1989 to see Q's built when on business to Japan.

Early education in Scotland seeps back into my Texan vocabulary which confuses everyone.

M is Tochigi, the only place M and Q are built.

MY is a Q45tech acronym for Model Year.

Now that is cool!!! I would have loved to see that!

The build date is on the white sticker in the door jam on the drivers side...

Well that is the print month of the sticker for sure............not sure how they handled cars started in one month and finished in another especially when sales declined after 1991.

The other matter is the engines how that had exactly enough 93 versions to finish before the 1994 retool.

People get so confused since most 1994 models were made in calendar year 1993

Just as most [7,400+ units] 1990 models were made in 1989 and very early 1990 [3,800 units].

You are correct. I double-checked and the date of manufacture is 07/1992.
