Well, if your going to build one, make sure it is big enough to fit those big 32oz drinks from gas stations!!

Oh damn it... kids, dont try this at home.

So I scrapped the whole in-dash cupholder project when I realized that to get the damn wires to reach down to the ashtray properly, I'd have to cut and resolder 30 wires. SCREW IT!

I put everything back together and decided that it was 6 hours labor gone to waste. Meanwhile, the $20 Mercury Sable cupholder I bid on is on its way. :P

I recalled this morning (its now 6am, I forgot to go to bed) that when I owned that pathetically slow Mercedes 300E, the dealer had fold-up cupholders, clad in leather, that hid away very nicely into the center console (the MB 300E center console was just like the 90-93 Q45). They were actually REALLY sharp. I also remember them asking for $300 installed.

Must be the Mercedes equivalent of decals on a Civic. Good for another .3 in the quarter mile with a Starbucks double-tall skinny?

Jesda - Like i said earlier, for $1.99 at WalMart you can get the cupholder that clips into the window channel and hangs on the driver door.

Convenient, cheap, far from any pricey electronic goodies and easily removable!

I once counted 16 cup holders in a Dodge Caravan. No exaggeration.

Sorry to bring up an old part of the conversation but the reason a lot of Japanees cars dont come with cup holders is rooted in Japanees culture. In japan it is considered rude to look at other peoples food, and along the same lines they dont eat in public but go home to eat or sit down at a resturant. Now the reason I found this post is because I was searching to see if they made it as an option to drop a cup holder in that little slot in front of the center console that is absolutly usless in the s14's. I figured since I am not using it for anything but collecting pay at the pump reciets I may as well put a cup holder there. However I think a really tall drink would get in the way of shifting.

I'll never understand Japanese culture. But thank goodness for Nissan and Sony!

3rd-gen integras have cool pop-out cupholders that will probably fit.
