There is no need to be stupid about it. The rb20 is the most unexplored out of the three RB's. Besides when you search you have to read though 20 pages of people saying search

thanks, well anyway i have tried searching but all i get is specs and rpm limits. no one looks towards the 20 as a performer so it doesn't really have support. i posted this asking for help from people who have explored this engine. sorry for taking up board space in search of help and knowledge.

Upping the stock engine boost is a good way to get more horsepower. You can do this relatively cheap depending on how much boost you increse.

well lets see....440cc injecters/fuel rail. t3/t4 turbo safc and about 1.5 bar should get you close to 400. also a FMIC and intake plenum. i'm using a remfg'ed t3/t4 garrett and a UH plenum..

.also UH IC piping and a custom FMIC i had made from a large npr cut in half and had new tanks and 3" pipes put on it. i don't have the injecters yet or the safc but i will have that in a few weeks.

and don't forget fuel pump 255lph walbro. or atleat a z32TT one.

i'm only looking for about 300-350hp max.all i really want.

Isn't 3 inch intercooler piping overkill? What manifold are you using? Do they make watercooled T3/T4s w/ an internal wastegate?

I'm poor, so I did a Joe P MBC, SAFC, Spearco FMIC w/ custom piping, Full 3 inch exhaust, walbro fuel pump, RC 550cc injectors, and I'm awaiting my Z31 T3 Turbo.

I'm getting it dyno-tuned at 15psi on the stock turbo probably Saturday. We'll see how that goes.;)

3" isn't really overkill....the coupler on the cold side goes from 2 1/2 to 3"....and yes they do make a water cooled t3/t4 it's about 50 bux more...

Question is: Do you already OWN a RB20DET? If not I would suggest an RB25DET because the head flows a lot better than the RB20. RB25 and RB26 heads are of the same casting.

If you do own an RB20DET I would look into doing a 2.2L upgrade which can be done with just using bigger pistons w/overbore. You can also do the 2.4L mod by purchasing a 2nd hand RB26 crank on a forum etc. This topic has been discussed many times before on how to do the 2.2L & 2.4L upgrades. There really isn't a fast way to make big HP numbers like that without having the engines bottom end setup correctly.

RubHamuSan pretty much sumed up what you will need for the minor and obviouse upgrades to get to 400+ HP.

Best of luck!

ok 40 to 500 hp from an rb 20 det the cheapest way.1 front mount i/c 24" x!2" X 3" think TO eternal gate turbo builts for 500 550 hp. Iset of rx 7 series 5 injectors 550 cc ,i z32 turbo afm. manderl bend piping from turbo back andfew mufflers as possible adjustagble cam gears. rom edit ecu software andheap and heaps of tuning you will make 4- 500 hp but I dunno how long the motor will last also. the higest octane fuel you can get.meggala

my suggestions would be buy a large turbo(really big, t66?), crank the boost up(of course big injectors/rail and such), get about 1oo shot of nitrous and you'll be easily at 5oohp
