Just thought I'd try to put this all together for both NICO members to see what new features are now here on the boards (?), and to alert mods to problems/things we've noticed that might need to get changed, etc.

Things I've noticed:

-There used to be a setting that only allowed the picture in a poster's signature to be shown once per thread, and then it would be removed for the remainder of that thread (to save bandwidth/space I imagine)... This feature was either removed or deleted by mistake?

-Someone mentioned it in 240sx general- some people are having problems with text not wrapping right and having to scroll all the way over?

-The search button is smaller- but thats been addressed and looks like it's gonna be fixed.

-My old bookmarks didnt work, I had to re-set them in my favorites for them to work properly. New directory system or page names?

-New NICO image! It's spiffy!

...anything else?

We'll need the Fred Quick-Reply box back. Have you noticed we're up and running with the http://www.nicoclub.com site? And check out the NICO store. COOL! The Skyline image on the mousepad is pretty slick!

A few things;

1. The new NICO banner looks great!

2. The Fred quickreply box isa must!

3. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY!!! The ads down the side have ALWAYS been annoying as hell since their inception a couple of months ago. I understand it is a necessary evil, and I grew to accept it on the forums page. But trying to read the threads is a HUGE pain in the a$$ now. All the text is compressed into such a narrow span... it really is VERY annoying to read. I realize that advertising revenue is important to maintain the site, but this is REALLY overboard. I hate to sound like I'm unappreciative or anything... but this is a serious gripe in my mind. It's not enjoyable to spend time at a site where the CONTENT takes a second seat to the ADVERTISING. It is very frustrating.

Ditto what Maine said - Having to CONSTANTLY use the slider bar at the bottom of the screen is a PITA.

Hell, I'm only using the right-hand 50% of my 19" monitor...

yeah,I agree.

I respect and appreciate what you guys do here. I also understand that advertising is necessary to support the project, however, I feel that you guys have not solved the problem correctly by adding sponsors in the actual thread pages.

It is extremely annoying to scroll down threads that can be streched all the way across my screen to only see half a white screen... you guys are killings us!! talk about wasted desktop space.

Please think about this some more and place the advertisers in a smarter way that doesnt affect the viewers reading.

Keep up the good work, thx for running and hosting this forum.... you are appreciated.

make the ads as small as the "NICO menu" (and hope that half of the shops don't cancel on you :D )

The nico icon is cool

The ads are annoying. Is there maybe a way to put rotating banners into threads or sections?

The quick reply box will probably come back, it was gone for a few days the last time NICO was down.

Anyone feel like the pages are loading quicker? Seems a bit juiced up to me.

themonarch wrote:Hi ya Nils,

Yeah, all this stuff is on my to-do list but I had to get some sleep last night ;) Anyways, the ads should be on the homepage and on the forums main page and when you go into a thread they will disappear. I don't think it's doing that yet.

Yup, Fred quick reply box is actually next on my list.

Yeah, def need to re-think/re-do advertising placement.... The default install of the vbportal places them there so I haven't muffed the code to look into changing it yet.

Great ideas and stuff so keep letting me/us know what you guys want to see changed/fixed.

thx for listening and for the quick response =)

http://www.nicoclub.com is a pointer right now.

Can there be a subject box with the Fred box, and make them both wider?

first click the shiny "forum" button, then look to the right and click the "hide left column" button.

Could we make it so you can attach more than 2 pictures in a single post. This would keep people from making multiple posts to show a few pictures of any single item.

Cool the fred quick reply box is back. Just wondering, how about the ad bar being changed when you are reading a thread? Make it where it goes away when you click in a thread but pops back when your looking at the thread list.
