k, my brother has a 95 auto 240sx with ~135k miles, nowdays he's been having problems when accelerating, sometimes(usually but not always when he's turning) he accelerates and the car will sputter, it'll climb slow in the rpms, but after the secs of sputtering it'll start climbing up the rpm's normal.the car idles fine and is bone stock, he just replaced the fuel filter but that didn't help much.

Well I have a 95 Manual and if I were to guess I would say it is either the MAF or the TPS. It could be a number of things. Is the ECU throwing codes? (check engine light on)?

no ecu codes, could be the MAF, but wouldn't that put it into limp mode and not let rev above ~2k rpm?

Have him check and or replace air filter, and ignition system (plugs, wires, cap and rotor).

Before you go buying all kind of parts that you don't need, check the MAF and TPS. If you have a voltmeter you can test the voltage to see if they are working correctly. When your MAF fails or doesn't work properly you can still drive but when you try and gun it or you are driving say 65mph then you give it a little gas it will surge, that's what happened to me about a year ago! Depending on how bad your MAF is messed up (not saying it is) the ECU will determine if limp mode is necesary.

I wish I could help you there but I don't have my FSM in front of me, I'm in Iraq right now! I am sure you can find it with the search button. I will try and find it myself and get back to you.

Hey just a thought, but my car was acting like that and it turned out to be the o2 sensor. Replaced the fuel filter twice before figured that out.

The MAF should read about .8-1.1V at idle and .3 V when the engine is in the 'ON' position (engine off).

The TPS should read .4-.5V with the throttle closed and about 5V with throttle open.

BTW this is for an S13 DOHC MAFS so your results may vary.

WTF..i'm having a similar problem...my 95 motor was fine..i had my wideband installed with the o2 sensor attached...the wire from the engine harness was not seeing the o2 sensor at all...i drove it for like a week and my car was running perfect high 14 low 15 all the time...someone on nico told me to connect the grey wire from the plx wideband to the wire that was suppose to connect to the origional o2 sensor...and then the problems started....my car dies on me when i'm sitting at idle...i put my origional o2 sensor and still the same problem...is it the o2 sensor...it was working fine a week ago....

stuttering can also be from a short in your plug wires... if there is no problem with smoke or fuel smell then think about the plug wires... it kinda makes the car jerk a little intermittently.

well my brother asked a friend @ a nissan dealer(my brother worked at that dealer for like 6 months as a mechanic, but didn't work on many 240's), and he says it may be the spark plug wires and the cap & rotor.(distributor)
