I'll DVR it. Comparisons to Top Gear are inevitable, so from that perspective, it's already better than the Top Gear US. The trick will be whether Carolla and company can come up with interesting stuff NOT already done by years of Clarkson on TG-UK.

I was planning on DVRing it, but I found out that I don't get the Speed channel on my current plan, no wonder I couldn't find Pinks when I looked for it a while back :squint:

Anyways, i'm curious to hear some opinions on it. Although i'm expecting TG USA to bring it this season too, especially with some competition now, i'm hoping we see an improving product with Season 2. I watched Season 2-9 of TG UK recently and while Season 2 and 3 were better than Season 1 of TG USA, it still wasn't quite as excellent in the beginning as it was from about Season 5 forward.

I'll DVR it also. There may be TG comparisons but Carolla will give it a character all his own.

Not bad! [And far from great.]

The dialogue was a bit dry but by the end of the episode, the foursome developed some chemistry and character distinction.

Dan Neil is the snob with brains.
Matt Farah is the gearhead critic.
Adam Carolla brings comic relief and mechanical know-how.
John Salley, a Corolla owner who thinks leather seats should be banned, represents the average American motorist.

Part 1:
Matt Farah’s commentary on the Porsche 911 GT3 was summed up by a single, moronic declaration: “It feels like driving a RACE CAR!”

Come on, really? What else did we think it was going to feel like? A Buick Lesabre?

Part 2:
The foursome participated in the 24 hours of Lemons with a 1994 Nissan 300ZX 2+2, fizzling out early when the car caught fire. They demonstrated a grasp of physical comedy but the scene was ruined by bland, lifeless background music that apparently came from a collection of royalty-free, computer-generated hard rock. It may as well have been porno music.

Part 3:
They quizzed Dan Neil and two audience members using a game show format. The trivia questions were interesting but the segment was a bust.

The interview with Nascar driver Jimmy Johnson was unexpectedly well-paced and engaging.

Part 4:
Dan Neil has grown on me — his pompous attitude reminds me of Automobile Magazine writer Jamie Kitman, known for his quality writing and obnoxious liberal views. I cringe when Kitman opines, but I admire his writing. Likewise, Dan comes across as smug, but he presents well on television.

Adam Carolla’s inappropriate comments work well with Dan Neil’s suit-and-tie professionalism, as demonstrated by the drive along Pebble Beach with Neil piloting a Rolls Royce Ghost and Carolla in the back eating fast food. The dialogue needed some work, but the sentiment of comedy was there.

The segment at the end about meter maids was too short to be interesting and too long to be funny.

I see more potential for growth and improvement on this show than I do for Top Gear USA. The hosts (well, perhaps just Neil and Carolla) are confident about their roles and the perspectives they represent, and both of them are walking tomes of automotive knowledge. The background music, however, is unfortunate, and the cinematography needs refinement.

I will continue watching.

I think they realize basically everything you mentioned.
Hell, Carolla even mentioned "IT WILL GET BETTER!"

I fast forward most of Top Gear, cause a lot of it is crap (basically anything not challenge related). I dont care about cars, I just care about what's entertaining. I'll probably watch most of this show, as I love Adam Carolla.

I just watched it. I enjoyed it too. Worth seeing, much better than TG-US, but not as good as TG-UK. I agree with much of what Jesda reported. I found Adam Carolla funny, snarky, (like calling Farah "Danica Fatrick") and is a decent host. He appears to be a nice balance to loosen up Dan Neil, who is sharp, stiff, knowledgeable but can also drive. The amusing 17 mile drive segment showed me that good things could come. Farah clearly enjoys cars, but he seems more the everyday kinda guy part and could develop. But while I think Salley is a nice guy, he's out of his element. He can't drive at all (made Captain Slow look like Schumaker plus he whined it being an endurance race as an excuse for driving like a 95 yr old granny in a prius - BZZZT), not entertaining, admits to owning a corolla, and is anti leather. His comment about gas mileage in a $300K Rolls confirmed he's clueless about cars. I don't see him lasting.

I recommend DVRing it as there are a lot of commercials to buzz thru.

I watched it. Well, until I found it too painful to continue, that is. After the gameshow segment, I got frustrated with how awful the show was and decided to do something else. John Sallley's comments about leather seats and stuff made me want to punch him in the face. Matt Farah's segment driving the GT3 RS represented one of the only ways that you can possibly make that car boring. He was neither informative, nor entertaining. He mentioned down force slowing him down at least twice. That needed to be taken out in editing.

I wanted to see the segment about the Rolls Royce, but when I heard they were going to be talking with Jimmy Johnson after the commercial break, I just lost all interest. Maybe it will get better, but I found this first episode to be a complete let down. Adam Carolla was hardly in the damn episode. Most of his airtime was the images of him sleeping while the other guys messed up the promising Lemons segment. The Lemons segment was the only entertaining portion of the show in my opinion.

In conclusion, I like Adam Carolla (when he's there) and I like Dan Neil. The other two I can completely do without. I hope this show improves.

Thanks, I'll have to check it out. Nice to know Hulu will have it!

Figures I can only watch it in a web browser, it's not supported on Hulu+ right now. Guess I'll have to watch it at the office tomorrow.

From an inside perspective I can tell you this, Adam says they're best material didn't make the pilot.

I'm hoping for plenty of improvement. I met the cast when we filmed a segment at Laguna Seca a month ago. Neil, Farah, and Salley are about like Jesda described them. Adam's definitely the heart and soul of the show.

^This. I don't like Adam Corolla, period. I don't watch much TV anyway, but it doesn't look interesting enough for me to try and fit it into my schedule.

I don't mind him as an enthusiast, but as a host, no thanks. I had forgotten how annoying his voice really was until I saw the commercials a few more times

I also don't get the Speed channel anyways, plus Hulu doesn't allow playback of the show on anything but a PC. So seeing as I spend 75-80% of my work week parked in front a PC, i'm not interested in wasting another hour of my time in front of it for a new car show. I hope it does well, but seeing as it'll probably be more likely to be cancelled, i'll stick to Top Gear for now.

He's an even bigger a** than I thought. Regardless of what his personal views are, I think this was way out of line. :nono:

The fact that there's a blog for gay drivers means there's too much "care" about gays by society -- by both pantywaist liberals and right-wing nutjobs.

Carolla's rant was a reactionary jab at the idiotic online groups who want Bert and Ernie to get married on Sesame Street.

Can't two puppets hang out and not want to bang? Why inject sexuality of any sort into a non-sexual environment? Adam's rant rambles aimlessly, but I share his sentiment. The "groups" need to STFU.

I've been watching each show, and I found them all entertaining. I'm a bit surprised by the hate for Adam Carolla. Did you guys know he's a long time Nissan/Datsun fan, who owns/races a few Datsun race cars? He's a fellow car guy.
