remember the 350$$ q45t with the broken chain.well thanks to everybody here at NICO, and a chevy tech that services the new vetts happened by the shop yesterday....I did the compression check and though #2 cylinder was low the compression built up as the engine turned over on the gauge.about 95-110 on the cylinders.I checked the passenger side.then I pulled the cam sensers and both cams were turning.so we did a fuel pressure chack and we had enough pressure too.so I checked for fire and everyting looked good. Im really wondering now remember I bought this car for 350.the guy said the timing BELT had broke.....so we sprayed gas in the throtle body and cranked it sputtered after awhile.more gas and few more sputters....then she fired. I shut it off and sat there DUMBFOUNDED.thinking of the poor guy that sold his Q for 350 because somebody claiming to be a mechanic told him the chain was broke.I started the car again and listened for and rattles or knocks. I had all the vac. hoses off ready for the tear down to begin with so there idle was high but I let it run breifly again waiting for the worst.....and everything sounded good. I started putting everythig back together. got everything back on last night...and shut down the shop for the day. Im getting back to things this morn. I cleaned then motor off real good and notice blue rv gasket around the heads and all.so now Im wondering had the motor had some major service work done??? who knows how I can find this out??? BIG THANKS TO EVERYBODYS HELP!!!!! WES,MANIX,and everybody else. Ill let everyone know whats going on later on today.

Good news. Completely rehabilitate the motor while you have it out.

Great News! Do not forget to look at those TCG and make sure that they have been replaced with metal guides if not, do it!

I finally had time to pull the heads off of my motor that was destroyed because of TCG failure - 4 valves completlly broken off and a hole in the piston. You dont want this problem!

Go to q45.org for a complete explanation. I just noticed that I am loged in on my sons handle mine is koolaidandq45's. Any way congrats!

Also my understanding is that the blue ??? is factory. What year is your Q?

Pretty hard to imagine why RTV would be around the heads unless they had been pulled - and pulling the heads is definitely "major service work"!

Sure you don't mean around the valve covers? If that's the case, a lot of times people will just smear some rtv where they start leaking on the bottom side of the cover instead of taking the time to pull the cover to re-seal it.
