Anders Behring Breivik, responsible for the Olso bombing that killed 7 people, also killed at least 85 youth camp students on the island of Utoeya by posing as a policeman and gathering everyone around to debrief them about the bomb and opened fire.
It took police a long time to get there because the island is so remote.
The children at the youth club were from around 13 to 19 years old and they were going to youth club to learn more about politics.

I'm speechless.

What was the reason for this? Obviously the dude was unhinged, but what was his warped motivations/ Was this an antigovernment move? I can't frame it without some kind of point of reference.

Only thing we know is that he was extremely against a multi-cultural Norway.
He wanted Norway to only be filled with Norwegians.

The psycho said he'll explain himself on Monday.

I suggest they offer to release him if he agrees to strap explosives to himself and walk into an al-queda training camp. Fight crazy with crazy. If he believes what they claim he might take the deal. Being scandanavian, I guess we promise him 72 members of the Swedish bikini team?

Here's another article. Most of the information is the same. Apparently we'll have to wait to figure out his motivation. I'd like to believe there is a hotter corner in hell for the people who hurt innocent children. :squint: I can't imagine what those kids' parents are going through right now. :frown:

He released his 1500 page manifesto, explaining his anti-Islamic ideas and how Europeans should overthrow their governments.

The way the Norwegian prison system works is that they look at it a correctional facility instead of what our American system has turned into, a way to get revenge.
Images of the kind of prison cell that Anders will go into has made many people angry, but he will stay in a cell like this until he dies.
Image
People that get charged for murder will receive a 21 year jail sentence, and at the end, they will be reviewed to see if they are fit for society, if not, they will stay another 5 years, obviously he will stay there forever.

Also, to put these murders into perspective, in 1 year, Norway as an average of 40 murders.
Anders killed over 80 people in one day, making this the largest spree done by anyone in the world.

Was talking to a friend of mine last night about his month spent in a Norwegian prison. He was wrongly accused and is awaiting his settlement.

There's a risk of injury/death due to the characters you're in there with, but its tame compared to what you might see in the rest of the civilized world. He didn't have to deal with having a roommate either.

I can see how this approach would keep non-hardened offenders from becoming exposed to drugs and violence as they often are in America, but for people who open fire on innocent people, there's no possibility of reform.

Yep, their way of trying to reform prisoners to better members of society works on most, won't work on a guy like this...

Oh, hold on let me pull up this handy list the prison published.
It's right next to the list of all people that got fat on McDonalds.

I would be more that willing to pay a few extra tax dollars to make sure he stayed in prison forever.

Supposedly, amongst the chaos, some of the bodies were counted twice.
The death count was lowered to 76, including the bombing.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14310047

There is also talk about charging him with committing crimes against humanity which is a 30 year sentence.
I'm not sure if this stacks with the 21 years for murder.
