I've read in many posts on this and other sites about these replacement struts. What makes them so popular? I've seen others advertised but some of the brands I've had in the past made the suspension seem like it's welded together. I really enjoyed the first gen Q ride and would still be if 2 of the struts were not bleeding.

Also, what is the price from Scottsdale on a set of four blues?

Thank much.

Basically.. They are cheaper than the factory shocks, are a little firmer while still retaining a very nice ride... Seems hard to lose

I think that at 5K miles they are at new black specifications. Some people have complained they are too hard at first, but I don't understand that. I am a luxury car type driver, so neither do I tolerate severe impacts. But I will trade some thumps for high speed control over uneven surfaces.

They are VERY firm at first but id never describe it as harsh...at 5k they were still much firmer than any other Q ive driven... With my 15in wheels and OEM springs, it made the car ride basically perfect, i couldnt ask for a better riding car.. It had a very smooth and supple ride but never wallowed, and allowed me to feel the road without having to "feel" it too much...

firm does not equal harsh.... It rides more like a BMW... I like it...

A local car parts outlet shows Monroe Sensitrac available for my Q. Similar price range. Traditionally, Monroes have been a softer ride. I put them in my old Audi years ago and the ride was good but handling didn't seem to be what I thought it should. Technology has no doubt changed since the early 80s. Sensitrac has a good reliability record.

What ever one uses remember the shocks wear on every stroke and the Nitrogen leaks out into fluid...........so every 4 years/60k is about it for near new control...........unless you fit adjustables and readjust every 15,000 miles........rebound adjustability can double [maybe triple] the shock life, if the Nitrogen doesn't leak too fast.

I'm on my 5th set of shocks........jusy part of the $3,000 annual maintenance/repair prorated cost. $500 installed divided by 4 years = $125 per year.....about what a Single tire cost or 4 oil changes.

Much cheaper than the annual amount you reserve for transmission wear out $3,000/8-10=$375-$300 or tire replacement [122x 4= $488/2.5=$195 plus mounting flipping balancing].

I just put Tokicos all around on my '94, much more stable than the new OEM shocks. I too was worried about ride... I have driven a Q with Eibach springs and these shocks, and it felt like a skate board. Personally if I wanted that kind of ride I'd start with a more pure sports car. I have two rear OEM shocks from Scottsdale with less than 6 months on them and I'll sell them to you if you like. The OEM fronts are OK, but cost a lot more than tokicos.
