Go with a re-manned transmission from joe, and just have your dealer install it. Non-factory remans are just too much of a risk.

I paid around 2800 total for transmission #3 back in 98. That was an infiniti reman with new radiator, installed. But I had to get the parts from an out of state dealer, the 1 local dealer would not budge.

Here are the part numbers from my 90 repairs:Part Part Number Local Dealer Fla DealerTranny 3102m-51x65RE 3816.25 1900Radiator 21460-60u00 635.43 425Labor 8 Hours

You might wanna also get a parts quote from your local nissan dealer as the 300zx TT used the same unit. Might help you in negotiation with the dealer to have the same part for less on a local basis.

My total labor was 8 hours since the transmission is a unit, so don't let em get you on the installation.

Of course, add the cooler and regular flushes. The JWT TCU is also an EXCELLENT addition to the mix.

Jim Wolfe Technologies, they have 2 great Q related products. ECU: Engine Control UnitTCU: transmission Control Unit, one of the best bangs for the buck on the 90 models. Adds First Gear start, Firmer Shifts, Remapped Shift Points, etc.

The combo of both makes the early cars feel much more powerful and fun to drive.

If you read the warranty on the back of any parts invoice it just says that the part is covered 12/12 - if it's installed by an Infiniti or Nissan shop, then the labor is covered too. I think the dealership was trying to scare you into paying more for parts...

I'd sure love some confirmation on that! Joe could offer a side benefit to NICO members (as if he doesn't do enough already) to hold a truely new transmission out for us! There is definately a difference between a factory new transmission and reman.

Joe's prices reflect incremental found money....some small profits are better than no profits from out of state.Just like T3 is a bit flexible when you drive from out of state...[the farther you drive the more sorry I feel for you and try to use what influence I have to help]....but 98% of the business requirements must be met from local customers.

It's great to get an extra $20,000 but against $2,000,000 it is only 1%.........

Essentially retail prices are set just like any other business.

Al this whinning about $1500 transmissions has me worried since the newer 5 speed and 6 speed AT [from Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, MB, jag, audi are more than double ] not unusual for one of these to approach $5,000 and $6,000 for the 6 speeds.

Think carefully and do a lot of diagnostic testing before you buy a used car in the future!

Q45Tech - I thought that asking the opinions of the many knowledgeable members of this board and sharing experiences with eachother was the whole point behind this board, I did not realize that would be considered whining.

Regarding the prices of the transmissions in the cars, that is why I do not own one of those, because I can not afford it. I have a family to support and need to balance quality with cost. If I spent all of my budget on the transmission and could not afford to change the timing belt, I am probably going to be sorry...

Life is about trade-offs and that is what I have appreciated most about this group was the diverse set of opinions and background, and the depth of knowledge and experience represented here.

So as long as it does not put people out too much, I will keep whining about the options I face in maintaining my car and will be grateful to those who choose to offer their experience for consideration in my decisions.

Likewise, I will be happy to share my experiences with those who are seeking it...

Thanks,Gadget

Gadget, He wasn't slamming on you personally, but if spend the time to read through the forums, you'll see that transmission issues are a dime a dozen. And everyone complains about paying to fix em.

Not reading the posts before complaining about widely known facts is a form of whining.

This site is more about informed facts (which are valuable) than biased opinions which even the ignorant have in abundance (and which are of no value).

You will be a better informed owner if you read the previous posts. The mere mention of AAMCO is prima facie evidence you have not. Believe me, the veterans on this board can spot the unstudied newbies very easily by the questions they ask or the comments they make.

Like it was said earlier (regardless of how much money you have), would you rather spend the money at aamco more than once, or cough up the 800 and not have to worry about it for a while??? I am by no stretch of the imagination a weathy guy, and I am trying to save up as much as I can for my transmission when it does fail.....

The best thing to do is to save up the money and do everything at once (IMO)...... That way, you can recover from it, and you wont have to worry about it for a while...... I am preparing to do this to my car, and 2 more paychecks and im gonna get started....... So I would say do everything and get it all over with (even if you need to take out a loan).....
