The Big Black Bracket question

On an 08 coupe, does anyone know what the big black bracket, between the spare tire and the rear seats, is? Or what is it's function?Because, if I removed this bracket and cut the foam back a little bit -BAM!!!! I got a sweet place for an amp.

AFAIK, it's only there to provide a bit of additional support for the cover that goes over the spare. I don't think you'll have a problem mounting your amp there, just make sure there's enough room for it to breath and not overheat. Also, double check that the lid to the spare is well supported and wont cave in on your amp.
