Ok, I will admit I am a complete rookie to metric vehicles. Here is my situation: I picked up a 1993 240SX coupe from a friend for 200 bucks. The body is decent, no rust just peeled paint and a dent or two here and there. The interior is stock and in good shape minus a stereo, oh well. Mods I know of are from the previous owner before my friend: strut braces in front and back, light weight flywheel, underdrive pulley on the crank, had an I.C.E. pak (?) ignition, and oversized radiator. I've worked on chevy v8's for years and transfered what knowledge was universal to my friend to keep his 240 going after he bought it, like the idle sucked and it kept dying on him so i unhooked the fancy ice pak and had him get a stock coil and presto the car ran fine. He had no probs for a while then the transmission went out, got it rebuilt and good to go again. Then he the radiator blew on him, I helped him repalce it, that is how I know it was a larger sized one, it ws bigger than the stock one through the radiator shop. We started it up and the engine had a tap/knock. Shut it off and it sat for over a year. His wife got tired of the eye sore, so for 200 bucks I took it over. So I got a cool little car that has a few miles on the transmission, a few hop ups and will get much better mpg than my 85 chevy truck. So, finally, here is my question for advice. I have roughly 2K I can throw into this project right now. Obviously I have to do something about the engine. If it were a 350, I'd yank it, bore it and put back together. This seems to be a good idea for the ka, so anyone know of a good rebuild kit? Eventually I might put a turbo on it, so a big bore is probably not needed, just enough to clean the walls up since the car is old and I dont know how the first owner drove it. I do want insides to be strong enough to handle a turbo. 2K should be enough to get some reliablility from the engine and some other minor stuff right? Any suggestions on where to start? Where to shop for parts? What mods to make first? Any help is appreciated. I'll post some pics of my (hopefully) diamond in the rough soon.
