oil filters don't differ much. i get wix because they're cheap and good. for cams i'd go comp cam or jwt.

Actually, that's very inaccurate. Filters absolutely differ. Construction type, materials, filter element (material and surface area) vary greatly.

However, you are right in saying that Wix is a good choice.

Another good choice (and a cheap choice) is WalMart's Supertech. They're manufactured by Champion labs who makes the best filters out there (in my opinion, based on a good deal of research) Including Mobil1. They're similar to Mobil1 filters, but have a slightly lower-quality filter element. Construction and other materials are still top-notch like the Mobil1, though.I use SuperTech filters in my cars.

Fram filters are horrible. Construction and materials are bottom-of-the-barrel. Very poor.

I know I post this a lot lately, but search the Q45 forum for "oil filter." You'll find some good discussion and links to lots of good filter comparison studies (many with photos). Lots of info to be gleaned.

I was going to say, "cut open a Fram and a Mobil filter then tell me there isn't a difference"

My mechanic says to use oem

He says you may burn up your engine on anythingelse because if the OEM gets stopped up the enginecan still get oil through a filter bypass

There are lots of options on oil filters other than the dealer. I personally recommend WIX and Purolator Pure One, which are two of the best filters you can buy. I can tell you that a Purolator and a Nissan OEM 15208-9E000 are virtually identical when you cut them open.

Nissan does not make their own oil filters either. Do you know why Nissan part numbers change from time to time? Because Nissan changes their vendors. The 15208-31U00 and the 15208-9E000 are interchangeable, but they are two totally different filters. Same thing for the 65F00 and the current 65F0C. As a matter of fact, no car manufacturer makes their own filters to my knowledge. It's just somebody elses stuff with the manufacturers name stamped on it.
