anyone have any opinions on doing some preventative maintenance on a manual 5 spd gearbox. should the old fluid be flushed or anything. what is considered the best manual trans fluid to use. any additives recommended???? thanks.

Redline MT-90 is a good choice but personally I use Motul Motylgear. No additives. Make sure it's GL-4, not GL-5.

I use Mt-90 as well.

Reduced syncro grinding issues during very cold weather and before warm up.

Also right after you change the fluid, you will feel the difference in the way the shifter shifts.

I use motul oil in my transmission and diff. It works fine and you definatly will notice a difference in shifting (especialy when its cold).

Make sure you get a type that can be used with brass synchros and I hear that synthetics arent as good for these trannys. This is relevant for an SR20DET transmission if thats what you are talking about.

My suggestion between redline and motul, is go with Motul. I've used both redline and Motul. I've been using motul in my transmission for the past couple changes for good reasons. Make sure though, that the stuff for your transmission is GL-4 and GL-5 for your diff. There is a difference between the two specs.
