On Thursday, I saw an exhibit at High Museum Atlanta called the Allure of the Automobile. Its a collection of RARE cars from the 1930s to 1960s. Just thought I'd share some pictures.

I made the mistake of taking my 4 yr old nephew. I plan to go back without him so I can get more pics. Sorry if the pics look crappy. No flash allowed.

1935 Duesenberg JN Roadster

1933 Pierce-Arrow Silver Arrow

1934 Packard LeBaron Runabout Speedster

1938 Alfa Romeo 8C2900B Touring Berlinetta

1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special RoadsterFirst car with 4 wheel independent suspension

1937 Dubonnet Hispano-Suiza H-6C XeniaHispano-Suiza built aircraft engines during WWI then got into cars. That obviously influenced this design.

1937 Delage D8-120S

1937 Bugatti Type 57S AtalanteCar could reach 130mph. Most cars could barely do half that speed.

1961 Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato CoupeOne of 20 built, its a DB4GT modified by Italian firm Zagato

1957 Jaguar XK-SS

Mercedes-Benz 300SLR

1953 Porsche 550

1951 Dodge Firestorm III

1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham

1959 Chevrolet Corvette Sting RayThe concept car on which the production Sting Ray is based. Only one in existence.

1961 Ferrari 250 GTRaced by Denise McCluggage

1948 Tucker Model 48 TorpedoIf you dont know the many features this guy designed that mainstream mfg'ers didnt adopt til decades later, you need to do some reading about Tucker. He developed a removal subframe to make engine/transmission removal possible in minutes and researched using valves controlled by oil pressure instead of camshafts, something BMW is just considering nowadays.

sweet.

I'd swear I've seen that tucker at another museum.

which is likely as there aren't many to go around.

I'd hate to see how much fire insurance is on that place

Heeeeere we go again.

Awesome cars there. It looks like Bugatti was doing the same things as they are today with the speed. :P

I'll have the Delage (#1 by far), the Alfa Berlinetta, and the Hispano-Suiza.

KTHXBYE

I think the Alfa is my favorite. Its painted an awesome shade of deep blue. Google for pics of the Hispano-Suiza to see how the doors open. Kinda cool!

Hey James, that Tucker is owned by someone from Tucker, GA. If you saw one in the southeast, I bet it was the same one. Only 51 were built...
