a tourist in a rental car, made a left turn in front of me from the right lane.

the insurance is slow and reluctant to pay me but I might get about 2500 from them.

i can save up over the next few months even if they ignore me but =

here is the question. Rebuild? or take the motor and drop it into a new chassis?

the SR runs, but the intercooler was smashed so there is no compression going into the intake manifold, it stalls while it idles.

Ill need to fix the frame damage on the passenger side.

But has it been done before? and effectively?

i can get a

hoodfenderpassenger side lightsignal lightfront bumperand a radiator core support,

but I dont know if its all worth it. what is the least expesive solution to get back unto the road in an SR s13.

swapping it into another s13 is not unreasonable but the cost of the swap would be stupid expensive because i would have to pay double to take it out and put it back in.

***educate and advise me.***

[ in life we magnetize bad experiences to ourselves due to negative thinking, so i cant help but believe I attracted that driver on that day, but thats the past, its time to move forward and build a badder car. ]

I found an s13 for 800 bucks the other day. If you do the swap yourself you can save some green I think. Just keep an eye peeled

depending on the if you get 2500 from the insurance company i would just find a clean shell and swap it over probably the cheapest option but you could probably fix the damage with 2500 if you did the work yourself.

hm, both good options.

I saw a beautiful shell recently for about 2K loaded with everything so you are right. great shells do come around. I will watch.

I could do the swap myself with some research. Im glad you said that.

and secondly, i could also fix it, I will have to knock out the bends. and get everything straightened out.we'll see.

if I had the option, a clean shell with no rust and no accident history would be a great place to continue from.

thanks for all your advice, everything will be ok.

ill post here to see what I can get from the insurance company. If i have some $ to start with, it will be easier to figure out what to do.

tell them to **** off for $2500. I got 1800 for a bent fender and broken headlight on a 1991 mazda 626... thats only 1 of each! tell them now you need to match the paint and this rental company has good insurance... trust me

You need to follow up on this aggresively, don't let them throw you around like that. Be calm and professional and tell them how to make it right. If the frame is straight, if you can do the work, you should be able to fix it for that much. But you should ask for more ASAP. Sil conversions parts can be pricey sometimes.

why'd you run the car if the intercooler was smashed no compresion in the mani cuz it was leaking out your intercooler buy yourself a rustless shell (sorry i just sold mine) swap the engine tell them your intercooler alone was 1200 so they expect you to buy a bumper ,rad support, headlights, sides, and an hood for 600$, be a bugger call every day they will give you what you want they talk to you everyday pull a shawshank ,letter every week and call

Damn thats sawky, good thing is you got hit by a rental car and theire insurance should cover EVERYTHING, get in contact with your lawyer see what he says about everything.... First thing is to make a list of things you need/want add up the final price and throw that at them, you can work a good number out of them if you do it right.

A shell would be a great idea, but if you do not know how to install everything then it can get pricey, all depends on how urgent it is to get your ride on the road. daily driver?

The screaming method works well too, just ask to speak with the highest person there when you talk. I got 2500 out of a minor quarter hit, dont let them lowball.

.I would definitely go to a lawyer had a couple friends that got in accident and did this. They saw a good chunk of change, but only because they went to hospital.Thats just how it is in Texas though not sure how things run where your from.

If it was there fault wouldnt the rental company have to pay for the damages?

Nice 240 hoped this helped good luck with it.

- I found two great shells, preloaded with brakes, starter, transmission, intercooler, and I will do the swap myself. im not an expert but with patience, tools, and time. it can be done.

- I am not in a huge rush, it was my daily but I'll rebuild over the next three months.

- I wasn't hurt. and i don't know how to fake it.

- they labeled the car a total loss and they were only interested in offering me, the value of the totaled car.

- Hertz is not liable. they claim that it was the drivers insurance that was supposed to cover accidents, that was their arrangement. and he agreed to this. he has full coverage but geico is a *****.

its all about shaw shankin it. this is true.

the 240 was in an accident in 2000. I should have known this, but didnt. according to their appraisers that made it almost worthless today.

they wanted to offer me $1800 minus $1500 in penalties.for the the previous frame repairs and the whole in my battery tray for the intercooler piping.

they wanted to leave me with nothing. i said f*ck that. give me the 1800 plus more. i asked for 2650. not a lot, but i wasnt paying premiums on the aftermarket parts, I had the most minimal insurance. 2650 is enough to buy a shell and get it running nicely.

the extra $ will come from the extra parts i sell and my own pocket.

you can allways try to declare salavage and buy a new shell and just swap all of the parts and save some cash.

yeah thats the plan,

and I will have some coilovers bbs rs wheels, blitz exhaust, and the motor to bring with me.

the windows, undented panels and lots of other Misc stuff i will sell expeditiously.

things should work out just fine. I am not rich but I make enough to eventually get back in the game with an even hotter s13, when push comes to shove.
