My freshly built motor is toast, only had it running 3k miles. A week ago or so my motor maid some horendous noises, and lots of oil spillage. Wierd thing was that i was coasting around 3k rpm and I heard a small rattle like a cat convertor cover. Then the transmission starts to shake like hell and I think the transmission is toast put it in neutral and the motor shrieks to a stop. I towed it to my shop and just parked till I had some time to look at it.

Checked it out the other day and Ive been to heartbroken to talk about it. There is a hole on the side of my block that my fist could fit through. Either broke the crank or end cap broke off or snapped a rod.I havent pulled the pan off yet but its pretty devastating from what can be seen. I havent seen which part is actually broken so I dont know what the cause was, probably wasnt detonation because im pretty on top of that but well see. I will probably just drop in the SR i have at the shop and part all the good parts from the KA just to get her running soon. Now im all depressed again and have no motor for my S13 project.

oh wow, that really blows. i wonder how it blew coasting.

why don't you replace it with another stock ka? there has to be a crapload of stock motors in cali with all these people swapping in sr's. that way you still have both cars to play with.

Whas this a full built motor? Or was it a stock build?

jeeeeeeeeez! How does that just happen?? Who did your lower end assembly? What kind of pressure were you pushing?

Man oh man that's horrible dude.... Keep us updated and get some pics if possible

It was built with Arias pistons, all new seals, bolts, bearing, water/oil pump, cams, etc... only think stock was the crank and rods.

Im thinking it maybe had a fracture and it finaly gave at that moment because heavy detonation would have caused it to go out durring WOT so im puzzled myself. Very well could have been a machining/assembly error but the car ran for 3k miles so again im puzzled. And i have a good rich tune and proper timing retard.

Im kinda sick of dumping money into these damn cars as fun as they are. I need to get my S14 running and dont have time for another build again and my SR is ready to be put in, might as well use it now. I might hold the KA on the side, build it, and put it in later. Its funny how most people would be happy as hell over the fact of getting an SR and im in the slums, haha. Ill let you guys know a comparison between the two motors in the same chassis, even though my KA made more power than a SR with a t25 can dream of.

I was pushing around 16 psi running a good mix of xylene, around 95 octane. The last WOT pull was 2 minutes before the incident next to a Aston Martin Vanquish. Ill get some pics of the damage this weekend, but it really sucks.

Im hoping for no damage to the pistons or head but the one rod/piston combo that seperated from the assembly might be a problem. you gotta see the hole in the block though, its huge. I already stuck my fist in there, kinda eerie feeling I got from it.

There is no telling untill I open it up so well see. It sucks throwing away so much money.
