eh i dont know what to think. i think its an awesome car, dont get me wrong. but it pisses me off they are just now introducing it to the states especially at a high price. on nissans web site it shows a timeline of skylines and i thought....well.....those models never were avaible here..so why now. it just makes for more hype.

(I haven't bothered to read the rest of the replies, so if I repeat anything my apologies!)

Anyways, I like the GT-R. I also like the fact that it's made to compete with the "big dogs". Definitely a new car badged GT-R just to stir the scene up. Thing is that it's very pricey, but I don't blame them; it's one hell of a car. I just can't wait for them to tune a GT-R for the JGTC.

Also, hopefully someday, if I get to be a doctor like I want to be and what not, I'll get one and keep it forevahh. :P

I just dont see anyone in the states buying this car, its to expensive for most boy racers, and it does not quite have the wet-***** appeal of a viper. if it was 1/2 the price or even 2/3 the price it could win some buyers over from the corvette and M3 crowd. after the press release came out I was trying to think what car is the GTR similar to in class and performance, and the only one I could come up with is the CLK63 AMG, or the M6 bt you get so much more with both cars. I just do not understand where this car is expected to fit in

i love skylines, but if its not available in rwd, then i dont want one. i just dont like how big v6's are versus the i6. and it destroys the chance for a decent, lower priced gts model... that vr38 better have some impressive components in it and live up to the gtr name. following the rb26 has a lot riding on it. i just wish they would build the new 240 rather than the next 200sx thats probably coming out. i personally think nissan has lost focus since 2001

Yeah, maybe a GT-S model in 2009 for below 50G or better yet a 2009 240sx/Silvia for below 30G!

I like sleek cars. Where the profile is like a wedge, not semi-elliptical. New Z's (or G's) are too bubbly for my taste. The GT-R has a pleasant profile so I'd like to see it FR and cheaper.

yea the price is the biggest factor here. they should introduce some more affordable sports cars -turbo rwd like a new silvia or something...

Well, I got to see the car this past Saturday. My friend and I went. He got the up-close shots, I got the far away shots. Once I get my pics onto my computer, and I get his, we'll collaborate an article and picture gallery for you.

true, but its not the same car, and its got a vq in it... maybe if the g37 had a NA vr37/8 that has higher potential, i would say ok. but all im saying is having the gtr body in a rwd model would still be bad *** and more affordable

but you have to look at it from nissans point of view, they are not in business to make the perfect car, they are in business to make money, the G35s and G37s sell and make them money, to introduce an aditional model that would rival the G37 in price and cost would be bad for business.

the base GTR in Japan is about 7.9 million yen thats about 70 grand in US dollars. now I have heard from sources that the US model will be 74 grand base. but the way the dollar is going, that price will be a bit higher, I am guessing 80 grand.

im pretty sure the chassis dosent go by that...

the older actual Skylines were known as mid level entry sport cars, while stock were decent and well off, relatively cheap mods could make it surpass the supercar category and into a race car. This new GT-R ( I refuse to call it a Skyline) is an High level Exotic car... while amazing, Aftermarket Tuning for this car will be limited due to

A. Extremely High PricesB. Less SupportC. The crowd of people who this car markets to are the far less car enthusiast.

just my $0.02

Why refuse to call it something it isn't.

It's Nissan GT-R. Not Nissan Skyline GT-R.

They dropped the Skyline moniker about two years ago when they debuted the GT-R Proto.

And tuning companies will have stuff out for this car. Companies like HKS, Trust (Greddy) and APEXi will make a killing. Turbos, exhausts, ECU's. It won't take much for this car to be an extremely high power car, so you know these companies will have stuff on the market come next spring.

I anticipate seeing many tuned models at the Auto Salon come January.

Does anyone have any definitive proof that this is not the next generation of Skyline? There's plenty of opinions and some logical comparisons to examples in the past, but I haven't ready any facts or quotes from the Nissan design or marketing department. I'd like to hear from someone at Nissan. More preferably Chief Engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno. On their site I read "...encoded within the DNA of a humble sedan known as the Skyline..." then I read, "Imagine then what would be possible with a clean slate..." Okay, doesn't every new generation of a car start with a clean slate? New chassis, engine, powertrain...? Names seem to vary from market to market... USDM gets some dorky number code for a name, JDM gets a proper noun for a name. So, why isn't the new GT-R the next generation of Skyline?

well considering the g37 just came out... and it is skyline badged in japan... yeah the g is the new skyline... i guess its an easy assumption that the gtr badge wont be on a skyline for a while

Wow, I thought those people just stuck a Skyline logo on their G's to look cool. I also thought (before the 37) that the G was just a old man's 350Z with an auto and leather. Furthermore, I thought the 350Z was the next generation of the Fairlady. So maybe the G37 is gonna be the Fairlady-Skyline GT-S? Is the Fairlady dead with the Silvia?

The Fairlady is the Japanese name for the Z car. The Z and the Skyline are similar chassis, but they are different cars. Yes, they use the same engine, and some suspension components, but they are different cars. You can get the V35 (Skyline or G35) and the V37 in manual transmission configurations.

As for the GT-R not being a Skyline, Carlos Goeshn, or however it's spelled and pronounced, specifically said at the 2005 Tokyo motor show preimer of the GT-R Proto, that the Nissan GT-R will no longer be a trim level of the Skyline sedan/coupe. It will be it's own entirely singular model.

And also, if you look at the new GT-R and the new G37/Skyline, there are no similarities in the cars. The GT-R is a GT-R and not a Skyline GT-R.
