Okay i recently bought a vert and it had a spun bearing. So the guy to it apart and noticed that when it threw a rod it took out a chunk of one of these rails.I don't know what there called and i don't have any pics of it,but ive got somebody that want to buy the block but i don't know if it can still be used b/c of this. Can somebody give me a yes or no answer. If somebody will post up a pic of an upside down KA with the oil pan off i can point them out yo u.

Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking it took a chunk out of the cradle, but the cradle isn't really rails...it's like a big piece of cast iron. If the rod hit something then that is what it would hit, so I'm guessing that's it. It is a separate piece so you should still be able to sell the block.

Yep that's the cradle. It's like 10 bolts to take it out. Haha I was about to go out and snap a pic of mine because I just put my cradle in, but you beat me to it. Take it off and trash it, it's only worth it's weight in scrap metal.

Well I just put my old one back in. It was out because I was rebuilding my engine so that's what I meant by putting it in lol. Courtesy parts might have one, but if not your next bet is a junkyard. It's not technically part of the block, so if you are selling just the block it doesn't have to be included.

thats the girdle..not cradle..anyways..here is the skinny man...you can get a new one and have it fitted throu a machine shope ( line honed and seated) shoudent cost that much...the block is not a throw away..it is salvagable as long as you did not stretch out the mainbolt holes...looks like a clean break to me..you should be just fine with a new girdle and some shope work.
