I am in the process of buying a new 240 but I'm not sure which year would best suit me. Can anyone help me out, give some pointers and what to look for? I am kinda new to this. The two I am looking at need quite a bit of work, but i want to know which one would be more favorable in the end, financially and personally. Thanks.

It all depends on what you want out of the car. I have a 1993 Hatchback and I love it. I haven't had any problems with it since I have had except for needing to put in a new clutch (still has the original) which I am doing next weekend. Having an 89 instead of a 93 probably means more mileage and more overall wear and tear on the car. But all in all it depends on you and what you want to do to the car. Figure out the problems are on each car and then decide whether or not you are wanting to put the time and money into fixing it. It's all on you.

You're probably going to get an avalanche of support for the 93. The 89 has a Single OverHead Cam (SOHC) design where the 93 hase Dual cams. The 93 also gets about 10-15 hp more.

Personally, I like the SOHC (it's what I have). But I'll give you the same advice I just gave my buddy who was shopping for a 240sx. The newer one will probably be the best choice if everything else looks the same. Parts you can't see are probably in slightly better shape on the newer one.

Good luck!

I talked to some people and they said that if the 1993 is in good condition, get the '93. He said the '89 had way too much problems and I will eventually end up throwing money into that car. So I went to the dealership and checked out both of them. All I have to say now is, tonight I will be driving home in my pretty new cherry red 1993 240sx!

Too many problems? Unless they're just talking about the age of the car I'd have to say their wrong. The only real changes in 89-90 and 91-94 was the Cylinder Head, front bumper, and several other small things.
