i've noticed on some garret compressor housings, they come already tapped near the outlet/discharge hole. does anybody know what size thread or hole that is? i know for a fact that 1/4in is too big. i'm gonna try 1/8inch next..

what i'm trying to do is find something that i can screw into there so i can feed my wastegate the vacuum signal. is that signal too close? should i get vacuum from farther down the piping?

basically, i need something like this little brass fitting in this pic.

Are you using external wastegate?

That would be cool if it would work because then I could use the same place for my wastegate.

is that a viable option?I am not questioning your idea, I was just wondering if that would be a good option.

well, i know that little fitting is used for internal wastegates. i don't see why it wouldn't be a good option for external wastegates...but that's why i'm asking here. i just wanted a 2nd opinion.

Yes, it would work, but then your WG is going to run lower gauge pressure than you want due to drop across your intercooler.

This is the safest place to source the boost signal for a wastegate. This is the reason OEM uses it. It pretty much eliminates boost spikes and the resultant heat. But, it also increases boost response time (slower - it will hit max boost slower) as it will cause the wastegate to start opening slightly sooner.

i see. thanks guys. that slow boost response can be cured with a boost controller though, right?
