Has a thermoplastic intake manifold. Absolutely does not have plastic timing chain guides.

Told my fiance all this. He checked with his mechanic. It does have plastic guides and it has a Northstar engine. Why the Q's guides go and not others??

Don't know bout Northstar, but DO know about lots of MBZ engines. All of their V-8 engines in Model 126 (420,500,560 S,SE,SEL) did have all plastic guides--and they would fail just like Infiniti guides. Numerous engines were destroyed that way. Fortunately, they would usually start making chain noise and those owners tended to be particular and would investigate the source before engine destruction.

Nissan was great about copying the best German 1980's technology but here is an area where it bit them. Look at the BMW/MB/Audi guides they a clones.Remember the Q V8 engine designs began in 1986 and things were first assembled in mass in the Summer of 1989.

Fixed in Summer 1992 for most of the 1993 models.

The Germans sold so many V8 in late 80's they got the problem fixed on some by 1991-1992 just a little earlier than Q which noticed the problem after only about 25,000 were sold.

I'll bet they reacted after only seeing a single failure as how many miles could the 89-91 have had by 92................< 50k for sure. They probably HEARD about all the guide failures that MB was having since they based the design on portions of that engine family.

Members saved enough but not having a timing belt to get the guides changed at equal cost [compared to LS400 engine].

Somebody here offered the dude $10K for it and he turned it down. I think he wanted $14K.

Just think of the 256 pounds of dry rotted rubber, the chain quides, the injectors.... Sure looks nice though.

IIRC, it was DetriotJazzMan.

I still can't believe the guy is denying the Chain Guide issue .

I did offer him 10k and he did turn it down!. I personally have mixed emotions concerning this car. If I knew for sure that this car would need nothing I would probably offer him 10K again. But.......that being said, Im not sure he is being open and candid concerning the mechanical condition. Or... as granny use to say " you don't have to be sleep to dream"

I didn't look as far as the bottom of the description "clarify some concerns"(#4): Seems like he needs some fast cash. Does anyone live close by (Pittsburg, PA?) who can go over there and look at it, and let the rest of us know if it's as nice as he says?
