People recall 1863 for Gettysburg and Lincoln's famous address in the terrible aftermath, but he gave us something else just as important in that year, as a way to try to unite our fractured union -- the Thanksgiving holiday. If ever we needed a uniting force in the 161 years since, I think it must be now, fractured into Red and Blue instead of Blue and Gray, but fractured nonetheless.

Enjoy the turkey, but if it's a Red turkey then share it with someone Blue, if it's Blue then share it with someone Red. If your house is divided, then try to remember that we aren't Blue and Gray, and give thanks for that. It's an all-American holiday, and we are, after all, all Americans.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! That was Lincoln's hope, and mine too.
