okay i will probably go with the spec v. but the only thing i dont like about it is how fast you have to switch gears. i guess i am like that because my friend has a gsr and he can stay in a gear for a LONG time. but i know of some chips i can get to make them redline a lot higher. and i also have been wondering about a supercharger or a turbo. on the vids i have seen people only run like 5 lbs of boost on a turbo which isnt much at all. so supercharger or turbo?????

TURBO!!!!Unless you plan to make passes down the dragstrip then the way to go is turbo. Supercharger is only good for low end. I raced a cobalt ss with stage 2 pulley kit (supercharger) and at the start he only pulled a car and a half on me and thats where it stayed, the reason being that the supercharger drags too much on the engine.I am just a turbo guy.

The gear ratios are tighter, so that's why you have to change gears so much. It means the power is more usable since you spend more time in the powerband per gear, if that makes any sense.

You can't raise the redline electronically, and there aren't any chips anyway, just reflashing. I guess if you found some valve springs you could, but there's no point. The QR's power is all in the lower and middle ranges. Revving it out is actually slower.

Turbo is a much better choice on the QR. Can't run a ton of boost, but you won't need to.

Why is the same question in your other thread?

so i will go with a turbo. what mods did you have when you raced that cobalt ss. i test drove one and they were not even fast at all to me. the other thing i have a question about is torque steer. does the spec v have any torque steer???? and do you know of anyone who is selling a sepc v for a good price?

Every FWD car exhibits at least a little torque steer. The SE-R has plenty, but with the Spec V LSD it's manageable.

Why are you hitting reply and posting a new thread every time?

It happened again, except this time the posts were actually different. You asked the same question in your new thread about 02-03 vs 04+.

No power difference.

Revised gearing I believe. Nothing else changed, at most a pound or two of weight difference.

I have a short ram intake type setup. and one cat removed and rear muffler removed. so its pretty much intake exhaust thats it for performance.

o nice. is it better to get a ram air on a spec because a lot of people have them?

No, the CAI offers more power, but ram air/SRI setups are cheaper.

Yes, the SE-R/Spec is very responsive to bolt ons. Most cars benefit from exhaust.

Just a catback won't get you much, but a header in addition to that will.

Either I'd put a header on first because of the precat issues. Then a catback and intake, in that order if you have to.

Then figure out what else you want and go from there.

keep the stock cat or you will run into emissions issues, so just do the headers and the catback with the stock cat.

A high flow cat would be fine too, but probably isn't necessary unless you have more significant mods (internals, turbo, etc).

okay so just start from the headers and go back.

That's the most common approach and is effective, yes.
