I have been on this site for months and have not made any comments, I wanted to test the waters. I am a mini trucker that sold all my toys and I came up on my 1991 Q45 at an impound auction for $500.00 and love the car. It needs some things fixed but is a great daily. I will post up pictures soon. Please feel free to comment once I can post pictures or if there are any other comments. Thanks

Cool...I scored mine for $700. Glad to have you here at NICO club!

Before everyone else chimes in, make sure those timing chain guides are updated!

Thanks for posting, Michael!

If you haven't already, be sure to set aside some time to get to know the Search function. There's an amazing amount of expertise in all the old posts, going back 6-7 years. You'll run across all sorts of solutions for any problems. There's really nothing that this Q45 Forum had not had to deal with at one time or another, and we've usually found THE answer.

So, welcome to NICO and don't be a stranger. Congratulations on owning a rather special automobile!

I am impressed with the knowledge that is on this site, but I do beg to differ with some of the og's that say if you want work done right it has to be done by an Infiniti mechanic, I have a freind that was able to fix the dreaded jerky stalling issue that everyone thinks is the MAF. He told me exactly what it is.

There are lots of stories on here of expensive screw ups because of unskilled mechanics or friends giving bad advice. A good mechanic with common sense and access to the FSM will probably do fine for some things.

A mechanic who just tears into things probably won't fair so well. Engine damage from improper changing of a fuel injector.

Watch out for the VVT hydrostatic rod

Care to share? This site is all about the accumlated shared knowledge. There are a number of short term "fixes" for the VH41DE.

For the VH45DE, presuming the injectors (fuel system) and MAF test out, usually it is the state of cleanliness of the intake path. Very seldom do the coilpacks fail.

As a general rule no mechanics are good for the Q. Not even certified Infiniti Mechanics are well trained in the mechanics of the Q.

The Q taught me how to be a mechanic because I got screwed by a few "real" mechanics before. With all the info here really anyone can be their Q's mechanic.

Basically he went through the whole thing, the only time that I had a code that came up was when it was talking about the CPK, when I took it to him there was no code. Went through the whole system and cleanded every electrical connector, the one on the Choke position sensor was very correded, he told me and it makes sense that if it was the MAF that the car would jerk all the time and not just at certain rpms.

CPK? OBD I is pretty ignorant and usually sends a code right after a fatal failure.

But corroded connectors can certainly intorduce all kinds of symptoms so should always be checked first before moving on to larger systems.

You may want to read the Stabilant 22 posts in IOM.
