Well, this turned out to be a fun exercise in frustration. My Northern New Jersey Nissan deal, who had originally told me 2-3 week for an SL, has now said at least one month and that's just for the S. As I can't wait that long, I have no choice but to settle (and boy do I mean settle, what with all the 2007 "about" to come out) for something else.

I have no idea if this is helpful, but I went to Autotrader.com and typed in a search for the Nissan Versa, and there are some out there. It just depends on how far you want to go.

Have you considered buying a cheap filler car until a Versa (or other 2007 model you want) is available? If you don't want to settle for a soon to be retired new car, why not find an older used car for a couple grand until the car you really want is available? You could probably find an older Sentra, Corolla, or Civic for cheap, drive it for a few months, and resell it for what you paid for it.
