It doesn't run hot or anything like that, it just keeps all the heat in and I didn't know if that was bad for the engine. And it's a 1989. It keeps a steady temp. so I don't think anything is wrong there, I just wanted to know how to release some of the heat from under the hood. Thanks.

Well if it does not run hot, thats good. My 89 runs about a 1/4 of the way up and stays there, which I think that is about right. You could always check your fan and clutch fan to make sure they are working properly. To release the heat, you could get a bigger fan, electric. Or you could even get a thermostat with a lower temp rating, so it opens up earlier, auto stores also sell some stuff you can put in your radiator/coolant that will keep the temp pretty low.

Mine runs about the same. And....this may sound odd, but it's an auto (seeing as how I don't drive a standard very well). I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to kill the poor thing before I got it fixed up like I want. Thanks again.

Darkelf. I'm assuming this a stock motor. Easiest way to simply open the hood after you park it. Seriously, you might be trying to fix a problem that doesn't need fixing. It your temp gauge doesn't go much beyond, say, halfway, you have no problem. Adding vents may allow a little extra heat to escape, but you're also creating another entrance for dust and water to get in. Besides, extra vents are going to detract from what is a now very attractive car.

You can also get a thermostat that would keep it a few degrees cooler. You probably will have to ask for the cooler thermostat at the part store. Nick
