well, my car started to sound like a ricer... finally had time over the thanksgiving weekend to see why...

I start the exhaust system check by doing this:

Well, I barely feel anything shooting out of the dual outlet muffler.

I proceed to jack the car up to start a visual...

The HKS exhaust is starting to show it's age in the Northeast

So I start scrounging around for some quick ghetto repair to quiet the exhaust tone down to "normal"

Yup, I've found one of those metal-box casings that come in the mail (who, in their right minds, would pay for $25/month for AOL dial up??? Netzero, Netscape is only #10).

I didn't want to unbolt the muffler/pipe from the rest of the system, because of this:

So, I had to work quickly since the daylight would go down soon...

Using tin snips instead of a dremel to quickly cut & shape the repair panel... ghetto-tack welded it in place:

(yes, I cleaned/lightly sanded the area 1st to ensure a good bonding of the metals)So, I fully ghetto-weld the rest of the panel to ensure no exhaust gasses will escape from there again!

The End!

(needs more cowbell??? I think I have enough pics to satisfy the regular NICOnauts, so no "this thread is worhtless w/out pics" comments)

slightly off topic: my sled's shooz

K flamesuit- ON!

AOL sucks balls.

They constantly "upgrade" their software, but they NEVER remove anything. I've seen AOL folders that were nearing 1GB before.

Nice work, I've used drywall screws and the end of a coffee can to decrease a leaky exhaust before, so yours seems professional .

It's sad to see that much rust on a car . Sorry, for the salty roads in your area.

I cant say i didnt do the same. The car Im driving right now '89 240sx had an exhaust leak on the resonator... Nothing a soda can and two clamps couldnt take care of hahaha.

what? u got another 240sx? I was in a pinch & didn't want this crappy sound to pollute the quiet suburbs of Cherry Hill... soda can metal was just too thin/flimsy

ya, this is my 2nd exhaust system since ownership 1996/its my only car <shrugs>

the original spat bits of resonator internals, making the muffler heavy & eventually fell off from the pipe... had open-pipe ghetto-fabbed w/ flexible tubing & a clamp for 4 months 'till someone from amarok.org (the original 240sx mailing list) gave me the HKS...

looking @ the pics i've posted, the slight angle of the muffler towards the front of the vehicle seems to be the cause of the hole... the condensation would pool to the lowest level & starts rusting it inside out.

should i drill a small drain hole for that problem?Quote »Wow, now we can finally start that list of usefull things that AOL can do. That's #1. I have done that a few times to a beater. It only works so many times until the exhaust finally falls off and you drive over it.
