And the only one in the family is my grandfathers 305 powered 2500HD. And he gave it to me and my dad when he passed away. But crap, at least its reliable and cheap and easy to fix IF something goes wrong.

My friend bought a malibu the end of last summer. Well maintained from a family friend and cheap too. I think they wanted around 1200 or 1700. Any way it was super cheap, had a trusted owner and had under 100K on it I believe. And I feel bad because she even had me check it out, I test drove it, checked every thing I could and it all looked perfect.

I talked to her today after she got done pushing it home. The headgasket blew, milkshake and all. YAY GM!!!

I did a quick google search on it and omfg the problems those cars have. Tonns of HG problems, wiring etc etc. And the newer ones even had awesome steering wheel jerking problems!!! COOL! One person experienced complete brake failure in a panic situation, totalling the car. Best part is there were 3 other malibus in the same impound/towing lot with the same damage and similar scenarios.

But no GMs never to fault under warrenty or not.

And my daily driver is a '90 240sx I bought from an impound lot for $400. Threw q45 brakes on it, and a clutch the next year, and various other small things but its been stupid reliable. I've put 49K miles on it in 2 years and its been retardedly reliable even though I drive it out of state to go to drift events and mercilessly beat on it.

Any way GM FTMFL and Nissan FTMFW!!!

Well GM quality may have sucked from 1996-2009 but not as bad as Toyota or Ford. Plus its all in the service history and maintenance of the car. Sure GM can build a bad car but if you can back yourself up buy showing you babied the car you look all the better.

I didn't think you could even get the 305 in a 2500. Man...what a waste of chassis potential with that gutless motor.

The Malibu sedan (NOT to be confused with the top-tier Chevelle of the 60s and 70s) was not even worthy of rental status until the most recent redesign. Horrible cars. The last-gen model is easily one of the ugliest cars ever built.

I don't know much about the new GM trucks but a 305 seems a bit small for that truck. This is the smallest engine available: Vortec 6000 which is ~366 cu in.

I'm assuming the OP is talking old C/K trucks. Which, FWIW, never had "HD" in the name. That's a modern marketing trend.

Well who knows I mean he is complaining about a car that someone else got for $1200. He gave no year in which it was made or any other service history. I don't doubt they have problems but why would someone sell what I assume is a fairly new car for so low if they claim it was "Okay"?

And I am no engineer but there must be signs of a failing head gasket and if so the owner should have brought it to the dealer....

190k on my Cadillac (bought it with 130k). Best sedan I've ever owned. After 19 years of abuse (the guy I bought it from lied about several things), the transmission is finally getting weak.

My first Q45, a '92, got a new transmission at 55k. It cost a fortune to keep running, even with plenty of DIY labor. It ate through several fuel injectors, fuel pumps, and FPCUs.
Second Q45, a '90, got the transmission rebuilt at 80k and went through two dozen fuel injectors. It left the previous owner stranded a few times.

The Q45s were more powerful, more refined, and more elegant. The FWD Seville is far more robust and I trust it more to travel long distances in harsh weather.

So, there you go, a completely different Nissan vs GM experience.
