Good news to start the project...

I've been shopping for clips for a good part of 8 months now and have found a few that were okay, but on friday I got a call from a good friend at Tokyo Motor Imports and he informed me that he just got a 300zx half-cut in his container and that it looked clean, so I went to check it out this morning...

Finally.

quick poking around revealed HKS turbos (looked brand new) with hks bov's on the hard pipes, hks smic, hks boost controller, 555cc injectors etc. comes with the 5sp tranny so i can get rid of my 5sp with the weak 4th-5th synchro. Despite being cut in half and shipped half way around the world on a crate the oil was full to the mark and no traces of oil on the turbo's or anywhere.

The clip has 82,000km's on it (~50k miles) and here's the best part: all cylinders are within 5 psi of 180. perfect.

No valvetrain noise, and it comes with the 30mm calipers up front so i can finally swap away from my annoying off-size 28mm's and get some bigger rotors up front. Has some other interesting stuff also like a vented nose panel, dual intake and a 320km/h speedo.

Everything is green so far and i'm picking it up either tomorrow or thursday to bring it to the shop where we can start the project.

I'm going to document it quite heavily for those of you planning on doing it on your own. Should be a good project!

Congrats TG

Can't wait to hear/see the progress

I've always thought a clip is the best way to go, never seen one for sale though.

Cost me 2600$US which is pretty good for a manual clip but i would have bought it even at 3500 in this shape with those goodies on it.

Some pre-swap pics just cause i took some sorry no engine shots as its a terribly unexciting NA engine...

Now some clip shots... Got it to my garage and upon closer inspection I found it to have all of the above plus tein tension rods, an aftermarket sway bar, a turbo timer/boost controller and a short shifter.

Here's some pics.

Overall shot, bumper is cracked and the intercooler is a bit banged but not punctured and its only the bottom most row of fins so no pressure loss, just cosmetic. (no loling at the tie raps to prevent hose bursting, mmk).

Here's another shot of the intercooler, again none of the veins are damaged, just the lower fins... its a bit beefier than stock 4 1/4" thick.

can barely see it on the overview shot, but these are the hks branded hard pipes with the hks BOVs attached.

New cluster with a 300km/h speedo which will definately come in handy Boost controller was set at 1.6atm (~23.5psi) hi and 1.2atm (~18psi) nominal.

the tension rods and upgraded sway bar along with the 30mm rotors/calipers that will most definitely be getting swapped in favor of my awkward 28mm NA calipers.

I also have some coil overs sitting in the car that I forgot to photograph but they're going in too.

She's sitting in my garage for now until I start wrench work on Thursday. Can't wait!!

Removed the engine from the clip and all the necessary parts needed.

whoever said you should take the engine out the bottom obviously has a trick as we tried and tried and it kept bunching on the turbo charge pipes and it was way too packed to remove them ;\

(If somebody can tell me the secret to making that come out the bottom nicely i'd be super grateful). We ended up taking it out the top because it went much quicker.

Long story short, the engine is out, found out i have a mine's ECU which I need to know whether it can be tuned or not by conventional systems. Going to check the turbo's to make sure they're in good order before stuffing them into the z.

Big job but its partly over now, just have to take out my NA (looks like its going to be unbelievably easier in comparison) and start prepping it.

Going to hit coz up for some more goodies on monday, maybe some bigger injectors and turbo's

I'm dead, I'll post some more pics when I get a chance.

Still waiting for a friend to confirm the borrowing of his volley ball.

They are Savini SV8s's in 19x12.5 rear and 19x9 front. Going to wrap them with 315/25ZR19 rear and 255/30ZR19 in the front.

Just over 1000$ per rim.

Should look good with a set of these under them

HOLY ****!!! thats really sick!

The rear fenders need to be cut and flared in order for them to fit. They stick out about 3" past the rear fender.

so currently they stick out 3", but after you cut and flare, they will fit normally?

yup the flares will be made to fit the width of the rim and tire while properly aligned with the camber kit and the ride height adjusted with the coil-overs.

If you look here you can see the fenders are built out to accommodate a wider rim, in this case I think wags has 13" wide rims on a 4" wider fender, but I'm not 100% sure of those figures.
