I hate texas. So i failed the Hydrocarbons part of my emmisions test yesterday. Your allowed 130 and mine put out 326. WTF is up with that. I've gone through the manual and adjusted/advanced the timing and checked all the vacuum hoses. I even did a tune up the night before the test. (spark plugs, oil change+filter, air filter) Why are my HC's so high? I know it's just unburnt fuel but where could it be comin from? It did explain one of my problems tho, my bad gas milage. I get like 200 to the tank which isnt too bad but i got that in my V8 Turd bird! Anyways, anyhelp would be much appreciated.

I'd be interested to here a reply on this as well. I think I am running rich. Went through the ECU diagnostic and got the all clear though. I only see smoke when I'm sitting idle and I just start to get moving. It's very quick and not too much. Curious as to why it does only then. I guess its good I am in San Antonio. No emissions testing. I've heard the city may be going that way though. =(

Edit: Tweaky_Tom: I think this may be of some help:

Couple things in there I think maybe able to help.

tom, register your car in a county that does not do emissions, then you don't have to worry about it.

I hate emissions tests. What a PITA! Not to mention a waste of $40! Anyway...do you know if your O2 sensor is functioning?

It's gotta be the EGR, i just havn't been able to make the time to check it out. I just had a favor done for me so, let's just say to pass, it's an extra $20. :D But it really is a waste of money. Especially when you pay for insurance, inspection, AND registration, then you go and get hit by someone with NO insurance NO inspection and a license plate they stole off a lawn mower. The fine for that is only like $200. WELL UNDER what i pay a month for rape me in the butt insurance. MFer's:angryfire

Damn, $40 for emissions. It's only $14 here in MD but I wish I had the $20 option for a pass. I just went and paid an extra $14 to get my car tested without the results being sent to the MVA. That was I would know if I passed.

That $20 extra thing is not an option. It's extra incentive to "pass"... :D This whole inspection/registration thing is total BS. They already tax gasoline prices to pay for the roadways but we also have the pleasure of paying an extra $90/year for driving. :rolleyes

I'm not so sure that the EGR would cause the problem that you're experiencing. I'll admit though I'm not the best with emission problems (I don't think I care...about emissions). But, a malfunctioning O2 sensor can cause horrible gas mileage and increased emissions.~Brendan

I know the $20 isnt an option but I mean it sounds pretty cheap for a phony emissions ticket.

Seriously, i buy taxed fuel to put in my taxed(registrated) vehicle to drive on a frickin tollway! WTF. Where are they spendin this s***? They make over $300,000 a day in tolls and the dam thing still isn't paid for? BOOOOOO! But the ticket isn't phony. It's totally lagit. It's got my vin and stuff on the ticket but the diagnostics arent my car...lol. I got a sticker so that's all i care. WOO HOOO!

Oh...no no no...it's paid for. I'm sure it's been paid for, for quite sometime. How old is that section in Dallas (running through University Park, etc...)? Right now they are working on spending more money building it into Frisco and HWY190 is going further into Carrollton and beyond. But I'm sure that is all paid for or will be soon. I don't know where it all goes...but it sucks. But hey...no state income tax right? So, it could be worse.~Brendan

Here in Md they are trying a new idea on the bay bridge. To save people money and reduce friday beach traffic from something like 2pm to 8pm there are no tolls. The tolls are paid by advertisements that they hang on the bridge. When I first heard they were talking about advertising on the bridge I didnt like it but if it is only durring bad traffic times I think its an awsome idea.

Tweaky_Tom...if your in denton county, I'd love to know where this 20 dollar option is ;) I think I'll be needing it...on a side note, my friend failed his emissions just like you did...car runs great and everything seems fine.
