Can anyone recommend a shop to convert my '92 'Vert to a 5-speed?

I'm a perfectly competent shadetree mechanic, and *could* do this swap - I just don't want to. Mostly, I don't want the hassle of tracking down the parts, disposing of the old transmission/etc, hassling with making the wiring right, etc. I've finally hit that stage where I'd rather pay someone than hassle with it myself.

I'm DFW, so the closer the better. I'd prefer to deal with someone who's done swaps on convertibles and is familiar with the wiring required to keep the top operational.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

- Dave

make a thread in the regional forum and see what happens.

Or try calling around like AMCO, im sure someone will tell you where you can get it done.

im in dfw doing my own swap on my second car now, there are a couple of all-nissan places around but i have to recommend ANB just outside of arlington because ive done business with them before and they do all kinds of swaps etc... give them a call for sure. theyve done rb26 into 240 and one of the techs drives a 1st gen rx7 w a 13b-rew swap and hes working on a 20b swap into his fd.

they know what they are doing...

Check out Gotham Racing... they deal mostly with FD's and FC's but they are very knowledgable and can do the swap

It's not going to hurt if you post here.

Some 240 guys in DFW hang around here, and you might get some good info on shops. Good luck!

I think some people think that you are looking for engine swap(sr/rb), but you just want auto to manual swap. Right? I know a couple of guys did auto to manual swap on their S13 & S14 by themselves, but not on a vert. You should call above shops anyway since they might have spare ka manual trans in stock and install it for you. BTW, I own a vert and live in DFW too, but still have auto trans though... I also like to know a good shop cuz I'll eventualy want the conversion too, but not at the moment...

i did the swap myself but if you rather go to a shop, i'd suggest you go to Tay in arlington. it might be closer than places around here in plano/garland. he probably has all the parts you need and he'll give you a reasonable price for your swap. some places charge you an arm and a leg since it's kind of a pain in the a**.

nope, diddnt write that.

ya simmode1, i have a few good coolant resovoirs. ya is kinda an old thread but i figured id add my 2 cents ya know. i always heard good things about triwerks but in the last 6 months ive heard alot of bad, even 1 story about the owner trying to fight a customer at a local meet because the customer wasnt happy with his half assed ka swap.

then theres the story i heard about what they did to jorge lopez's car.

but every shop out there isnt gonna have a 100% feedback. thats why i dont use any, but i will say ive never heard anything but good about tay's shop.

Thanks, man. I'mma shoot you an email about getting a resevior from ya...

I hadn't heard anything bad about triwerks before this. But I guess it was bound to happen. What did you hear about them and Jorge's car?

Speaking of Tay's shop, 94_240sx just updated Tay's dedicated thread in the Regional Section with some new pics. That guy and his shop are sooo legit...

i heard they messed up the wiring in his car and that jotech had to fix it. had to replace whole harness in the car.

but the 2500$ ka swap was just rediculous.
