Dont worry boys, Ill still be in the family... Im sure everyone here knows what my Q has done to it, and if you dont Ill explain later.....

Theres "another" Q i may be going to look at this weekend (assuming the guy gets back to me), and if that goes through my Q will hvae to go (but how golden would that be for me to have 2 94-95 Q45!)

Id be asking 6500 OBO... Takers??? It would be as pristine (not cosmetics) as I could get it upon delivery...

Wes,

That seems like a good price IMO. Blue book value for your Q in "excellent" condition is about $4500. But then you take into account the preventitive maintenance you've done (plenum, suspension, etc.) and factor that into the price, then $6,000-6,500 seems reasonable.

Good luck! :)

Hmmmmmmmmmmm-trading your car for a similar model year, makes one ask, what is wrong with yours,or so much better about the one you are looking at that would want to make you trade?the way I look at it,my 96q,I would not trade for ANY other 90-96q out there,I know how mine was driven and maintained, and trading would open up many questions that dont need asking by keeping my present vehicle.

How many miles does your Q have?

129,721... Slowly inching my way to 130k.....

Theres really nothing wrong with my Q except the cosmetics... The seats are the problem mainly, and the exterior is a little scratched up but it shines so beautifully.....

Let me run down some of the major stuff done (most of this done between 121k and 127k)

New tires (have 10k on them), brakes, fuel pump and filter, transmission flush (and a pan drain at 127k) with filter change, full plenum with knock sensors... Suspension was redone, and everything rubber (everything!!) in the front was replaced and in the rear the shocks, and all the shock rubber..... FSTB added... All fluids changed.....

Basically Ive sorta hit a wall in my quest..... I want to make one more big spend, and thats on cosmetics... I dont want to cheap out on this, I can get 2 new front seats in vinyl for like $300, and most you know that I was going to do a katzkin leather interior for $800.... Then Id still hvae the paint to do, which isnt bad except for one place..... But do it right it would more than I have right now especially if I did the seats......

Im a perfectionist and when I do stuff I want to do it wholly, right and complete the FIRST time... That means big bucks now but hardly anything later......

Just so you know most people know about my sludge problem and I will assure you it will be cleaned to the best of my abilities prior to delivery..... Im going to head up to the shop in a week or so, and do about 6-7oil changes with the ATF trick in a few days.....

The only "problem" im having right now is with the EGR... CEL comes on, code 32 for the EGRC solenoid valve.. Ive been driving with it like this for a long time and it doesnt do anything... you odnt need the EGR but it does throw a CEL.. If you have emissions you may need it and if thats the case we'll work out a deal to get it fixed.... I just have been reluctant, ive been waiting to find a solenoid from a junk Q but have been unsucessful in my quest......

Wes if your worried about the paint you can have it clearcoated after the scratches and dings (DentDoctor) are fixed. That is if you don't buy Fred's car.

Wes, are you a masochist? Why do you want to get into this with another Q? Unless you enjoy doing these repairs, you’ll be doing all of the same things. Plenums, plugs, knock sensors, suspension, and quite the hornet’s nest in the back seat. That’s a lot of time and money. What the deal with the other Q? Is it cheap? Low miles? The paint’s perfect? Good leather? What gives? If you truly enjoy doing the work, then go for it. So what color is the other Q?

wesy,

good luck on the sale of the Q. Good to know you'll still be a member--you've helped a lot of us on the board.

I was just checking the boards to see how to get the codes on the Q ('95). My CEL is acting up and I don't know how to get the codes (like i do on the caddy; push warm and on). Or do I need a CONSULT?

Thanks.

IMHO, its good to own different cars. I guess it would be cheaper to just frequent other car forums, but experience breeds understanding and appreciation.

I strongly suggest doing this:

Go around to all the dealerships in Indy and test drive some 8-10 year old BMW 3, 5, and 7 series. Also check out the E420 and any V8-powered S-class (they were still great cars in the mid 90s). Take an LS400 for a spin, then check out the STS just to remind yourself of the Northstar. Drive a Mark 8 too.

THEN, when you do all that, come back and write us a thorough comparison. Of course, I just enjoy reading reviews and it would be more for me than you.

At worst, you'll find more reasons to stay with a Q45.

You should definitely try a 3 one day. I love driving my wife’s 03 330i. The best handling car I've driven since my 86 944 turbo that I had. Power when I need it. I can't always say that about my Q. A smooth shifting transmission, although I wish it was a stick shift. The ride is a little harsh for my taste, but that's ok. All in all, a very well balanced, light and easy car to drive. The other good thing is that if you like doing after market stuff to the car, you have so many options open to you. Variety is the spice of life and the Q is a very good car, but it's not the be all end all. There are many good cars out there. Try them out.

Louie is right. 330 is awesome. Hell even the 2k4 325i my mom has kicks ***. Has the sport package. It's such a tight handling car. Steering is BMW legendary. Brakes are perfect. Handling is great.

The Q is great, but drive a real tight handling car that weighs 500+ pounds less, and it will have you lusting.

The BMW 3 series is perfection

Inline goodness. Perfect gearing. Perfect engineering. Beautiful interior.

The problem is all those cars are fine and good..... But I dont have the money right now... My plan right now is for me to break even on the actual car purchase (or ideally make some money), and if I made, say $500 that would immediately go into a new fuel pump, shocks, and some other maintenance items...

Not to mention id have to do EVERYTHING all over again... relearning systems, getting FSM, finding something equal to NICO (not gonna happen), and it goes on.....

I just want to know if anyone is interested.....

You want forumshttp://www.bimmerfest.com/http://www.bmw-forum ... come.shtml

There's many more things out there for BMW than Infiniti.

I will tell you one thing, I like the NICO forums much better. I visit NICO every time I go online. Kind of keeps me from getting work done. The people are not the same. There’s more of a sense of community at NICO. It seems more like a family. Everyone knows everyone. Hell, I just purchased rims for my Q from someone on this forum and he sent them before he received my check. Now that's trust. I don't think that would happen in the other forums. You know Wes, screw that! Stick with the NICO family and get yourself another Q. Long live NICO & the G50.

I agree Louie... Ive bought stuff from NICO members (and gotten freebies ;) ), Ive helped members via email and phone, and they have done the same...

I will not hold my breath on finding an equivalent..... EVERY other forum Ive been at (except one) is more of a professional discussion, this is more of a laid back group... I digress.....

Dont forget the MB C-class, which is the same from 94-99. Before the new designs hit in 2000, it was a very solid, reliable car. The C-class is a small car inside and out, but there was a V8 option!

Anyway, I second the motion to acquire Fred's Q.

I looked at those on the internet, and IMHO its not much car for a lot more money than is the Q....

Id still like to know if I have any "bites".....

and me getting Fred's Q isnt going to happen... Sorry its just not feasible at this time... To make it "fair" we'd have to exchange my 94 plus about 4 grand, and I suppose thats all fine and good, but I simply dont HAVE 4 grand and at my wages it would take about 10 years to make 4000...

Do you think EBAYING the car would be a decent idea??

Wes,

I'm going to be honest, to save you seller fees.

You WILL NOT get what you want on ebay. You would be lucky to get $3,000. A well maintained Q means nothing on ebay.

If you are to get your asking price, it's only going to be from someone who wants a well maintained Q that needs nothing.

Ebay is brutal on Qs

Although I will probably be an outcast for mentioning this, try looking at some legend GS/legend coupes. The day I bought my Q, I test drove a Legend earlier (93 coupe) and it is a pleasant car. It was a really awesome price, too (2800) at 134000 miles. If I remember correctly, it actually books for more than my Q, but the Q had nearly complete records and all of the prerequisite maintenance, it just made sense to buy it now. ANd in hindsight, I am very pleased with my decision.

However the Legend was a really nice car that if I had 2 vehicles, I wouldnt mind owning it as well.

But autotrader.com has always been nice to me. Only problem is the screaming deals, you have to jump on the day they are posted or you are SOL

Hey here's an idea. Maybe you should buy your next Q on eBay. You'll make 2 grand in the end.

You won't get verbally abused for mentioning the Legend GS. They made them up through 94/95 IIRC and I might would have one, but the guys that have the 6 speed 230hp (I think) models think they're GOLD. When I was looking in 2001-2002 (bought 07/02) most GS's (Sedans) were in the $15k and higher .

Sexy cars, but the price and the FWD just made me say NO.

With factory rims (on ebay now, opening bid $8750, automatic :()

The Legend is a great car. Almost got one before getting the 93 Accord from an Acura dealer (this was before I got the Q45). But from the reading I've done, it seems the Legend will nickel and dime the heck out of you.

I've driven a few (about three) of them, and they feel quite solid and responsive. But they dont do anything that stirs the senses. Like all Hondas, they do everything very well but offer nothing that makes you 'love' the car.

Same thing here. And the 6 speeds are gold.
