Anyone here ever take an SR alternator to get tested? I went to autozone, but wasn't sure what to have it tested under. Probably not KA, but maybe SR from a Sentra?

Another good way to test alternator is to start up your car and just disconnect the cables off the battery to see if your engine will die or not. Usually works for me.

The thing is none of them are in the car right now. I have 2, but the engine is being rebuild right now.

Dude I hate auto zone they are a bunch of idiots. They did this to us when we brought in a SR Starter. The Alt doesnt matter what motor it came off they have a standard test they all run. I mean if they really are pricks about it test it as a KA since the KA alt is the replacment for the SR.

We spent 30 min at Auto zone telling the kid behind the counter he wouldnt find the starter we had in his system but he didnt listen. Finally I got a manager and had him hook it up and we got out answer. Didnt need the motor type at all.

lol I do the same sh*t. I use to take my car places to get the oil changed while I was at college and living on campus and I loved watching them squirm to figure out the oil filter they needed. Even if I told them they always called me out to show them the filter they needed.

lol yea I saw your setup VERY clean. We did something simular except we didnt move the Brake Master and Clutch master. We just located all the fuse boxes and wires in the fender wells and frame rails.

I normaly don't defend the people that work at auto zone but in this case I have to take their side on the alternator. I work for advance auto and the alternator bench testing unit requires a specific plug for all of the different alternator styles be it old ford new ford, chevy, toyota, pontiac, mazda, etc... including nissan.

I work for Advance Auto also and yes the Altenator may need a plug but not a starter in my case. I bet I could test the Alt without a plug also if I new which was the hot wire coming off the plug.

Way to make yourself sound intelligent. Anyways, even though my alternator is working, I have to test it again. I also need to trace my wires and see if there's a short. The charger will NEVER fully charge the battery, it's always pumping in one or 2 volts constantly, so there IS a drain somewhere.I now suspect my alt is going because anytime I shut off the car and try to start it again it will just crank down slower until it clicks. (which I don't let it do for long) It's just annoying man.

OH, how long do I leave the battery unhooked from the engine to see if it really is working?

Awwww, geeez

I didn't mean me tho

But at autozone they do train them to look up parts by make, model and engine size, even if it is a light bulb. Its kinda dumb, cuz you don't need to know which engine a car has to find its tail light
