Hey all, probably a few goofy questions. Please forgive me.

Could someone please post the step by step for completing a test of the Ignition Coil? Symptoms in my car match the description for this going bad. I just replaced the Head Temperature Sensor with no change to my startup problems. (was getting code 13 on the ECU). It was suggestions the IC could be the problem?

Also, is it a must to purchase (if ness) a brand new Ignition Coil? My engine has 230k kms on, this part is not usual to go bad, can I take one from a car with lesser Kms and expect it to work?

Furthermore, the AIV (Air Induction? Valve) ... the Cube shaped box very near to the ignition coil. Mine leaks, could I replace this with a used one as well or would it go bad in the yard?

Thank you.

you can completely remove the AIV system with no side effects, just plug up the lines .

an ignition coil from the junkyard would work just fine

to test the ignition coil, get a friend to help you. pop the center plug off and hold it near the valve cover (or anything else metalic) and have him crank the motor for a few seconds while you look for a spark. It can be fairly hard to see depending on how much light is on the plug. If it lights up fine, pull the number one wire off the plug and see if it does the same thing (after reconnecting the distro plug of course)

Thanks guys

So then "technically", it doesn't make any difference to the car if the valve is leaking? Or is it just getting in the way and causing more problem than not because it's faulty? I wish I could rip out the whole damn system but alas, I'm not that gifted with cars..lol :) A cheapy IC sounds nice to me and I think I would have to get my friend to look for spark..hehe. I like my nerves. :D
