This may seem like a stupid question, but can you test the continuity of trailer wiring using a multi meter on the actual harness? I think I messed up the wiring when installing my new harness on my pre-wired rogue tonight. I bought a Curt Manufacturing T Connector and I don't have my trailer at the moment to see if the wiring works properly. I have to pick my trailer up either this weekend or next.

I used a multi meter to test it with the vehicle running, but I couldn't see any signs of it working when I applied the brakes, left or right flashers or hazards. I'm thinking it could be one of three things;

a) the fuse for the harness needs to be replaced already
b) It's not grounded properly
c) I'm suffering from the "ID 10T" error

Any thoughts?

Your multimeter/voltmeter is all you need to test if your connection is working, so it sounds like you're testing it correctly, if you aren't getting a completed circuit I'd do just as you suggested: check the fuse in the harness, check the ground and double check all of your connections to ensure they're all correct and tight. My guess is this will lead you to the solution.

Let us know how it goes please!

Look on the forum, I didn't find it, but I already read that some on the pre-wiring of the Rogue are not correctly done and should be fixe by the dealer.

There was a post from last year where a Rogue owner could not get 12V to the 'pre-wire' harness. The dealer traced it down to a connector under the dash that was not fastened at the factory.

Philipa: Do you know if it is a common problem?

Because I have the pre-wired (just need to find where it is) and I don't think I will install a hitch, but we never know so I don't want to pay to fix that in 3-4 years.

Thanks

Well, I'm officially frustrated with the pre-wiring.

I changed the fuse, did not work. Old fuse looked fine anyways.
I checked all the fuses for the rogue, they looked fine.
I checked my ground cable. Looked fine to me.
All the lights work fine for the rogue with the Curt T connector hooked up. However, there is simply no power whatsoever coming from the pre-wiring connector. I checked with a few different tools just to make sure it wasn't the tool that was the problem.

I have no choice but to bring it into the dealer to allow them to pull my car apart to check for a short.

phillip: If you run across that post, I'd appreciate it... I'm guessing this is not something I'll be able to correct on my own eh? Pulling apart the dash kinda scares me... All these new cars have plastic panels and plugs that hold things in together and can EASILY break if done wrong.

I just fininshed installing the same harness and had no power at the connector. If you look under the hood there is another fuse panel next to the computer, just remove the intake, pop off the cover and install a 30amp fuse in the spot that is labeled trailer, hopefully thats your problem, mine works great.
Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the reply jetmonkee, I couldn't find the other fuse panel under the hood. If someone has a picture of what it looks like, I'd appreciate it. Also, I'm not very car savvy (yet!), but time for me to ask a stupid question, where is the intake? I'm guessing it's one of those big huge hose things under the hood, but I'm not sure what it is or where it is.

It's on the RH side of the engine next to the battery. You will have to remove the air intake tube to get at it.

The fix for 'lack of power' at the trailer pre-wire connector is here:

Well, after much hair pulling, the problem was as jetmonkee said it was... The 30amp fuse. I didn't have one. Apparently Nissan does not include these fuses even with the pre-wiring as it's known to cause some battery drainage issues according to the dealer I spoke with today. Has anyone ever experienced the battery drainage issue first hand?

Nope. The 30A fuse was installed from the factory in my Rogue. 2+ years later and I have never had power drain issues.

Maybe they've just started with 10's? Doesn't make much sense to me to not include it.
