Testing a Speed Sensor for a short...

I recently had a coolant leak that ran down the back of the transmission, possably damaging my speed sensor. I tried cleaning the wiring with electrical cleaning solvent, but had no luck. The speedo stopped working when the car was leaking, so I'm pretty sure the coolant leak was responsible for it. Is there any way to check the sensor before removing it to verify that its bad?? I dont want to get it out and buy a new one only to find out it was something else...
