my compression came up 152, 150, 153, 160....dropped some oil in the cylinders and the compression came right up...so the rings are goin out....

should i just slap the kit on since i dont notice ANY burning oil or any problems

or put in new rings??

how hard is it to just replace the rings and what would i all have to buy for that??

I think that if you add oil when doing a comp test and the compression does come up it suggest that your vavles are opening or lighely open...

I dont know if this is correct or not.

means you rings are going cause the oil seals the seals, thus naking the comp go up

My compression is lower than that and I am running 14psi with no problems. Turbo has been on for almost a year now. I day do it. If the rings go, rebuild.

what was your compression before you put your turbo on?

i keep hearing the compression number doesnt matter as much as how linear the numbers are

its better that the numbers are close together +-5psi is a general rule of thumb.

factory spec for rebuild is 149psi

replacing the rings involves a full engine rebuild

are there any other factors that can contribute to lower compression numbers?? like oil type or anything??

my gauge is a $20 dollar autozone one if that makes any difference

Boost it. I never even checked my compression before going KA-T just over 2 years ago.

Either the engine runs well or it doesn't. Obviously, all the cylinders are worn fairly evenly and you're not experiencing any oil consumption issues, yet. You'll see some consumption when you go F/I, and might even see some smoke now and then when rompin' on it, but I doubt it'll be anything worth worrying about.

went back to test the compression for a second time today this time hooking it up to a battery charger and disconnecting the fuel pump....and the results are MUCH better....180,178,178,180.....so i definitely think that having the battery connected to a charger and disconnecting the fuel makes a bigger difference then we all thought

Boost it. First, engines are consumable. Forget about having your car forever. You won't live forever, and neither will your car. But it has one advantage over you, parts are a lot cheaper.2) Compression is uniform, and it doesn't burn oil. Most manufacturers are quick to point out now that it is more important that compression be uniform, than to a certain spec. I can almost promise you it will be higher with new rings, but I say don't worry about it until it is a problem. Just be sure to turbo wisely.

its kinda a general rule of forums... don't get in someone else's thread and start asking your own unrelated questions in their thread. Start your own thread or just PM/Email him if you have some question.

Are you doing the compression check when the motor is hot or cold? Generally you want to do the check with the motor warm, tb wide open and the fuel and spark disconnected. Good luke with the Turbo kit.

Warm it up. TB open and disconnect fuel by pulling fuse for pump. plugs will obviously be removed so there is no spark

Procedure is found on page EM-8 of the FSM...

haha, ive been there, there is no worse noise then the sound of a motor with bad valves doing a compression test with 0 compression (its just a straight starter whine)

Me and structure installed the kit in 2 days... Its not hard.. Just take your time!

Downpipe and Sr downpipe was included int eh kit, so I have no idea what they cost.
