What do Ford's 2005 Mustang GT, the MINI Cooper S and Volkswagen New Beetle all have in common? They are all modern, retro versions of milestone products. And when it comes to tires, Firestone's Firehawk Wide Oval w/UNI-T is no different.

The Firehawk Wide Oval w/UNI-T is Firestone's Ultra High Performance Summer tire for today's driving enthusiasts in much the same way that the original Firestone Wide Oval, the industry’s first low profile performance tire, helped revolutionize high performance passenger tires in the late 1960s. To find out if Firestone's modern, retro tire will again advance Ultra High Performance, we compared the road manners and handling performance of the Firehawk Wide Oval with the popular AVON Tyres Tech M500 and BFGoodrich's g-Force T/A KDW tires from the Ultra High Performance Summer category.

Welcome to the NICO boards, Lee!

Now please put these puppies on a heavy car like the Q45 and tell us what they will do!

Too bad they didn't test the SZ50 EP also! That would be a good historical reference. Unfortunately the Uni-T specifications for the WO don't seem to be as sophisticated as the Uni-T AQ specifications for the SZ50 EP. And two of the reviewers (of the eight posted) say it is no SZ50 EP. Darn.

BTW, the posted specifications for the Wide Oval 245/50-16 are missing or wrong with regards to section widthe and tread width.

Compare to the Firestone http://www.bridgestonetire.com...=1079 specifications for correct specifications.

A recent review (6-20-2005) by someone who has driven the original SZ50 and the newer SZ50EP is much more favorable, though! That person plans to replace his last set of SZ50EP with these Wide Ovals.

Too bad, these are not available in a 15" size for the 90-96 OEM wheel size Q45 owners here. Or in a 245/45-18 that I could use for my M45.
