Not too bad. Here's what I noticed.

1993 Q45last digits of vin # 223097170,000 miles.Gold exterior w/ 2 tone dk brwn. and tan interior.Engine idle smooth and quiet.Transmission shifted nice...quiet and smooth.Throttle response good...got to 60mph very quick.Slight wheel shudder at all speeds....wheel out of balance?Brakes good....pads however will need to be replaced.Engine bay fairly clean...pass side front of block looks oily.Needs tires all around.Sunroof seems to stick/slow...needs help opening.Dent in front "nose" part of hood beside emblem.2 small door dings on drivers door....1/2 dime size or less.Small dent/scrape in rear bumper cover.Leather looks good...drivers seat I give a 7 out of 10.Carpets look good....8.5 out of 10.Wood on dash and center console somewhat worn....7.Sony CD changer in trunk is good...w/ cartridge!Sony CD control in center console is FUBAR....soaked in soda! All instrumentation looks to be working.Heat is good.A/C needs a recharge.Owners manual intact.Seats work and seat memory works. All pwr. windows and locks work.Trunk clean and tidy.Did not notice any "hum" from fuel pump.

The seller is asking $5,000....but it has been for sale all winter and he is VERYYYYYY motivated. :D

So what is the concensus.........

Thanks,

Andy

AC "needs Recharge", tires worn, vibrations, needds brake pads.

The above are all signs of a car that has been neglected, due to owner unwilling or unable to to properly keep it up.This car could easily need several 1000 dollars to get it to a decent level. What color is the oil and the transmission fluid?open the coolant see if its clear, and if "stuff" is floating in it (sign of old maybe even original hoses)We had cars in much much better shape than that, guides done, recent transmission for sale here for well under 5k.

As much as I hate to say it unless he come sdown A LOT, I wouldnt buy it.Even then I might not, because better cars come up every once in a while for same money.Sopadope has been trying to sell a excellent mechnical shaoe Q, in MA ,for a couple months now ,for less (see our buy/sell section a few pages back)

There's a good chance that "A/C needs a recharge" means it needs a new compressor or evaporator, both of which are $1300+ repairs at a dealer. I had to fix both on my 93. Although in NW Michigan, not having A/C may not be such a big deal. :)

Hi guys,

The A/C got cool/cold...but not real cold like it should.

I forgot to mention it has a new radiator and hoses. Need to verify this w/ reciepts.

I will be having an independant tech look at it as well as myself. I will let you know what I find out.

Mass is a long way to travel......although I'm sure it would be worth it. :)

I will not be offering a dime more than $2000 because of the questionable maint. history. However this all depends upon a more indepth survey. Believe me I've learned my lessons on a couple "bad" purchases.....been there done that.

Thanks,

Andy

Actually new rad plus hoses isnt so bad at least soemthing major (rad is $700) is new.Check the knock sensors for cracks may indicate overheating. If no cracks there=likely no overheating.

You are paying $5,000 for the ability [chance to] to spend another $3,000-$4,000 fairly soon...........at $8,000 FIXED it is probably a good deal.........except the mileage is a little high since 250,000 miles may be it for motor.......and surely the transmission/diff will fail before that.

$8/9,000+ [3 x $2,500] minus resale say $1500 for parts= $14/15,000 for 3 years or $4666/$5000 per year [$400/month] plus insurance tax titile gasoline say $2500 extra per year......$7500-$8000 per year [$660/mo] to drive if something major doesn't fail [engine or transmission].

I am assumming you are paying cash and not including interest or sales tax [some states require it on private sales]

Can you and are you WILLING to spend $2,200-$2,500 after that per year [a little less if you standards are lower].

$1300 doesn't get a full AC repair just a quicky fix as all the lines need flushing and maybe the evaporator needs changing budget $2,000.

Offer $2000 or maybe up to $3000 if seller can prove a lot of work done recently (like radiator and hoses, which is probably $1000 job??).

My '92 Q is at 184K and it's better than ever (other than A/C which I have opted not to fix). I try not to spend more than $3000/yr fixing things given that all would be lost should the car be in an accident.

You really have to decide if you're satisfied to drive a car that will ALWAYS need something fixed for the next 2-3 years. Most of the needed repairs will not be urgent, but it'll get on your nerves at times.

(That's why I'll probably buy a new car next time.... tired of driving a To Do List on wheels).

Maybe you can work out somethin with SOP, his car has had all the work done to it, new guides, transmission has been changed and flushed with synthetic, new Tokicos, new springs etc, etc, etc, I would check it out especially seeing how it is less than $3,000, good luck:)

I'd sure find out why the radiator was replaced! I wouldn't think they'd replace it just for fun - an overheated Q is one you want to avoid!

Need4speed,

Where were you when I needed a buyer!?!? Such a shame, as (not to boast) but my Q is probably superior to the Q you drove in every facet. Tokico shocks, 22mm custom bar, urethane bushings, new suspension components everywhere. Alas there are many Q's going for cheap on Cars.com or even Ebay. Good luck in finding a mechanically-sound Q.

That car was a rip off. I have a 92 in California that I'm reluctantly parting with. I am asking 5k for it, it has only 96k on it and the car is clean, fast and in great shape.

Now THAT'S the deal!

Jeff, put that bad boy on B/S/T and It'll be gone in a flash!

A low-mileage 92 in great shape, with fantastic maintenance, in a good climate? Easy decision.
