I think it's a fantastic achievement. Electric motors are really torquey, as one article points out - full torque at zero rpm. And this is the only current (no pun intended) car that offers that kind of range - 250 miles. Of course, I would expect the entire (expensive) battery complex to be troublesome, but that's what the first-adopters are for. If I was independently wealthy, I'd own one.

Just read an article in Popular Mechanics. The Tesla costs 2.2 cents per mile in electricity at current rates. The Q costs more than 15 cents per mile just in gas.

very nice! from what I have read in other articles regarding electric cars, you can expect to replace the battery every other year at a price of $6000+

I think we have had posts and a discussion on this car before.

Sometime soon, I hope to see their sedan that they are working on ... I wanna test drive one!

Range has been downgraded to 200 miles. Which means real life with accessories probably 150. That would make a great Sunday driver.

I want one. That is one sweet looking car. No long cruises in that unless they develop some sort of insanely fast charger. The quivalent efficiency of 135 miles per gallon is pretty awesome. When battery technology improves, the cost of replacing them might not even be that prohibitive.

edit:

Even with the demands of charging and discharging the battery pack on a daily basis, the batteries in the Tesla Roadster will give you more than 100,000 miles of peak performance driving. After that point, the battery will see only gradual drops in performance over time.

That is pretty amazing. I wonder what the trade in value will be on a 240sx. Too bad they are $92000.

Purely electric cars are always going to be better as in-town errand runners. Long distance driving will still be gas powered, due to recharge time. I suppose it would function well as a commuter car, too, though, given the 200 mile range, or even 150.

As long as that commute doesnt include too much 'idling' with the radio and AC on it should be okay.
