Hi. I seem to be getting really bad gas mileage from my 2.5S 6MT coupe. EPA estimates are supposed to be 23 city/32 highway.

The highway milage isn't too bad, but the city mileage is bad.

I've been averaging about 18 MPG city and maybe 28 MPG highway. Am I missing something here?

How heavy is your right foot though? I get about 24-25mpg (the cars computer computer always says 24.6, lol) city driving like a granny. If you are already driving it like a granny, then something might be wrong. What kind of landscape do you mostly drive on? If you drive up a lot of hills, that will probably have a lot to do with the crappy mpg.

i had that problem. then i realized.. don't rev each gear to about 3500. i did taht. now i shift at around 2500. the car won't pick up quickly but i got 27 mpg last fill up purely city driving which is verryryyyyyy impressive.

I wonder if that works for CVT or are they just fake gears?

Yea, it could be a combination of things...do you lead foot? do you have the a/c on? how long do you hold before shifting? etc.

The epa estimates are just estimates, nothing more. Actual gas mileage is determined in the end by the driver, driving habits, and where they go.

yea it's all about how you drive. i'm not sure how you guys are figuring out your city and highway mileage, but i'm getting ~28mpg combined - more highway driving than city.

the 99 infiniti i30 i used to drive got me 18-20 mph when my foot was heavier, but then i started driving slower, often no more than 68mph, and started getting 22-24 mph, so yea pretty big difference on the way you drive.
