WD21 Auto 3L Petrol 1992 with 160k VG30 E

So, just got my 1st Terrano/Pathfinder. my 1st 4x4. With most vehicles I have bought in the past I all ways try to change what i can to make sure its all up to date and not going to bug out on me. I'm going to change all the fluid in the rig before i start taking her up the mountain properly and longer distances. After reading this forum and checking my truck over a tad it seems my trans oil needs to be changed asap, i have also noticed a hang between gears and a faint whine at the higher revs before a gear change. I understand this is due to low or old trans oil. i checked and yes its not so red anymore, more dirty pink. Engine oil is also looking pretty used. I have access to tools, a hoist just for a short time. Iv ordered a haynes manual to help me aswell. Just wanted to know if there is anything not worth doing by myself? Also if anyone has a different opinion on what im going to put into my rig let me know please

Things im going to do and what i have found to be the correct part/fluid for the job

Diff oil - ( need to find out if i have LSD or Open ) but in either case APL - GL 5 SAE 80W90

Engine oil - 10w 30. Coming into winter here in Queenstown NZ

transmission oil - Dexron 2 ( can only find Dexron 3 in stores, is there much of difference? )
I will install an aftermarket cooler aswell. any preferences on one?

Break fluid- DOT 3

Power steering fluid - Saw a post that said if its red ATF or clear then PWR steering fluid ?

Blinker Fluid- Type 2.0 mk 0121 seems to be legit

Cheers !

Welcome. The owners manual states that 5w-30 is the Preferred oil viscosity, and would be a better choice for the cooler Wellington climate. You might want to go with a high-mileage syn blend.

The manual also calls for DEX II for the PS and AT (or "Genuine Nissan ATF".) My go-to fluid for all things ATF, Valvoline MaxLife ATF, lists that it's compatible with DEX II. Do not use PS fluid in a system designed for ATF.

You can use a synthetic 75w90 for the diff, it's a bit more fuel efficient. And I like the "Valvoline Dot 3/4" as the brake fluid.

Queenstown NZ, not Wellington, my apologies. (originally from Brisbane myself) Even cooler climate, and more important to use a 5w oil, not 10w.
