Forgive the silly Question, but I searched and did find a answer

How do you know you need new tension rods? I was reading and the general consenseuous is that when the silicone leaks is that the only time? Would a alignment be able to tell me, if my caster is out of spec?

I just want to make sure i have everything near new and since the tesion rods are the only thing I havent replaced.

Thanks guys for your help!!!

From what I've been told -- yes. Also, if you see cracks in the rubber part of the bushing, that's more than a good time to replace them.

One thing -- if you only see cracks, but no silicone that may not mean it hasn't leaked, but rather, all the silicone has leaked out already...

What I've noticed on our Q (non-active suspension) is that when the bushings started to leak, going over bumps became a lot harsher. Also, the alignment started to show a higher negative camber, as indicated by the inside shoulder tread wear on the front tires. In our particular circumstance, didn't notice a change in caster, however I can imagine bad bushings would lead to any or all types of misalignments.

shaginator,if the negative camber is true to the relation of bad tension rod bushings, then i can contest. i'll find out after i replace them though. right now my passenger side bushing is cracked and rotted to hell and i have unnatural negative camber on that side only. the drivers side is still in OK condition and the camber is within spec.Denver, i agree with everything shag said. Just look at em, if they just look old they need replacement. Regardless just by looking at your year and mileage it's a good guess they need to go.

Mine are also cracked and replacement is mandatory. My question is "Has anyone tried the the adjustable type and is so do they work as well as OEM?". These look well made but the generic fit has me wondering.

I doubt if they actually fit universally for the Nissan line. I wonder if they might be too firm resulting in more body shake. Anyone ever try these?

I have a similar set made by Stillen. They actually do fit the whole Nissan line. I've been very pleased with the adjustability and can't complain about the ride. I made many changes at the same time that harshened the ride, so I can't speak specifically about the direct effect of the tension rods.

probably so. those look like they would fit perfectly on the J30 as well.
