Hey. I just got a catback installed on my car. when i got it back and pulled it in the driveway i noticed my temp gauge was just below the H mark. I popped the hood and the coolant in the overflow tank was well above the MAX line. the temp gauge sat just below the H mark for awhile. I turned on the heat in the car and the temp gauge went to H, then when i turned off the heat it dropped down back to just below the H.

Anyone have a solution?

UPDATE: The car does not start after letting it cool down for over an hour. It makes a clicking noise but nothing happens. now what?

could it have nothing to do with the temperature and be a bad altnernator or battery or something?

Is it your Hyundai, or do you have a 240?

oh im sorry. i parted the hyundai out and bought a 91 240sx. its the 240 that doesnt start and stuff.

heater still works and hoses are fine.

the main issue now is the non-starting and the clicking. im gonna check the starter right now. im guessing its either the starter or alternator since the battery is new.

i have tried that procedure and it still does not start. the clicking noise sounds like it is coming from the starter or somewhere near the intake manifold.

If you have the time take out both alternator and starter and go get them tested, I know advanced tests them not too sure on other auto stores cuz I live across from advanced auto

i removed the starter and took it to auto zone and oreilly to get it tested. both places passed the test, so the starter is good. they said the alternator would have nothing to do with it since it has a brand new battery i just put in after this all started happening. they said it could have something to do with the flywheel not connecting with the starter or something in that range.

what do you all think?

Check starter relay, Bypass the starter relay with the link above, and is your car a manual? have you tried manually turning the crank with a big a** wrench? have you tried to push start it?

try push starting it or using a big a** wrench to turn the crank. You may also want to pull the spark plugs and try cranking it that way too.

Why would you check the starter after overheating the motor. Check to see if the motor turns manually. You could have locked it up or blown a heagasket or maybe, damaged pistons rings. Eiather way, if your motor doesnt turn while tryin to start, youv locked it up.

when trying to start it, the fan shaft moved slightly while its clicking. it seems like it wants to turn, but just doesnt have the power to or whatever.

Okay, take a ratchet or breaker bar and try to spin the crank by hand. Hopefully your not 6 feet tall weighing 20 lbs cuz itll take some effort. see if you can spin it good 3 turns without killing your back.

I know you got a new battery, but have you had it tested under load? you may have gotten a bad battery from the get go.

turns out it was the starter. thats the last time i take a part to an auto store to get tested. repair shop said they tested it and it didnt do anything unless they hit it with a hammer.

just my luck!

now its just figuring out the bogging during acceleration and the high idle at a stand still.
