temp sensor in radiator hose

does anyone know if the sensor that is the lower radiator hose is the engine's water temperature sensor or is this sensor to signal the AC supplementary fan to switch on. The reason I am asking is that I have to replace this pipe that the sensor screws into, but I won't be having AC for now anyway. Any help would be appreciated.chad

I didn't use it, and I don't know of anyone who used it unless they didn't have aftermarket / jdm hoses.
